When you think about it everything is information but does that count? do specific terms apply to the concept of information? and what do you think in your mind is information?
Everything is information.
And if we decide information IS edible - who wants to see if you can get the same results by shoving it straight in your ass ? I vote for tinyE, he has experience in the field .

You can't squeeze a physical object like an apple into a sequence of symbols or signals. A sequence of symbols capturing everything about an apple is going to be information *about* the apple but not the apple itself, also the ability to eat a medium containing information is not eating information, it's just eating the medium and thus eliminating access to the information. So no, information is not edible.

Of course information is edible. I always start with small bytes.

You could transform an apple into bits, and if read correctly you would get the apple again.

See Holographic principle.

^This^ LOL

I'd say edible objects are partly compromised of information, so, sorta
[Also the discovery that an object is edible is information]

That was beautiful

I'm not yet familiar with that principle but as far as I can tell your statement implies that the original physical apple itself is not information before the transformation. Also I'm wondering whether you mean an actual transformation where the apple is actually turned into bits or you mean an analysis that provides the whole pattern necessary to recreate the apple - I should probably read up on the holographic principle.

The sad thing is that I didn't get the joke until I saw your reaction.

My first post stated that everything is information, so the apple would be information as well. The apple is composed of a millions and millions of bits. Holographic theory basically states that this 3 dimensional object can actually be represented on a 2 dimensional plane, and when these bits are processed in the correct manner, the 3 dimensional object can be formed out of it.

A visual representation would sort of be like smearing the apple across a very large plane, and smearing it so finely that each spacial point has one bit of data. You could also think of a computer for instance. A jpg can be opened up by any application, if you were to change the file extension, but the data would look completely incoherent because it isn't being read in the correct manner.
Are thoughts information?
Oh crap - I suspect this conversation will go way over my head, so I'll just +1 BlueMooner and leave it to the folks smarter than myself to figure it all out.

nadenitza: Are thoughts information?
Yes
EDIT:Hooking up your brain to a computer can turn yo thoughts into info, of course it has to be a fairly special computer

But if you eat the apple don't you process the information? For instance an apple tells you how ripe it is, how crisp it is, how tart it is, if it has been stored in a cellar for a year, etc. Your teeth and tongue translate the apple information through mastication and sends it up to your brain where it is then stored for future reference.
