cogadh: Just as an example, we still don't have Splinter Cell available, which we know is coming eventually, but isn't on the current list of "coming soon" games. The loss of TOCA is just because of the terms of the licensing agreement GOG made with Codemasters. We were always going to lose it eventually, we just weren't told when until now.

chautemoc: Really? Why would they make it only temporary, though?

As a test run, I presume, to put one of their most popular game series on GOG to see if it was worthwhile. Then in the future, I think they might bring it back, and then some.

Wishbone: So yes, there is no indication that GOG is anything but okay.

There is one: GOG team have stopped participating in forum discussions.

That's just a sign that there's definitely a problem with some of the more recent discussions :)

The announcement says it is permanent though.

Perhaps they're busier than usual trying to get us games. :)

GOG Team participation in discussions has always been slight to none, which I think is sad, but there it is. I don't see a dropoff in that activity. They seem to participate as much, or rather as little, as they have always done.

I *do* hope so.

Hm, that's definitely not what I was seeing...

They pop up occasionally but presumably they have other things to do than sit on a forum all day.
If not, hey GOG, can I have a job?

Goonbridge: I notice that the number of upcoming games is down to 2, and TOCA 3 is set to be removed from the service.
Is everything ok with GOG or is it just a quiet period?
/a concerned goger

Hey Goonbridge, we're doing fine, thank you for the concern and don't worry :).
Regarding ToCA 3, please see this post. It has nothing to do with Codemasters - GOG.com cooperation :).
As for the number of games in "Upcoming" section - I'm sure that the list will get bigger when we'll announce next publisher (and then again the next one, and another one... :). And between the announcements we also have a bunch of other titles we're still working some magic on, making them compatible with Vista and stripping the drms from them, etc. They require a lot of extra work so we don't put them on Upcoming list, as it's really hard to give any eta to fix them (sometimes it might be a day and sometimes a few months ;). That's why we often do surprise releases.

Always on hand to make us all feel better!
Of course, we never doubted you for a microsecond...!

I heard somewhere that you got the games before the DRM was even added? Is this a misconception?

I think so; a few games have traces of the original copy protection. Gothic II includes an executable that asks for the CD if opened, while TOCA 3 includes bogus placeholders (protect.exe and protect.dll, file names used by StarForce, which the game originally shipped with). It looks like GOG's programmers have to do a bit of DRM-cracking on the side, except that in this case it's legal and they get paid for it. :)

Often, yes, but it's not always that easy :). Sometimes, with the help of game devs / publisher, we're doing some magic here and there. I wish I could elaborate more on the prep process, but (a) I'm not the best person to ask and (b) details are top secret I'm afraid ;).
Let's just say that in a perfect world we would always get a perfect master without xp / vista issues and with lots of hi res images, manual and bonus materials. But hey, it's not a perfect world, so we're trying to make it one ourselves ;)

That is a philosophy I can support. :)
... In a perfect world, we wouldn't need GoG to optimise games for new operating systems so yeah, let's just all be happy it's not that perfect world :D (we all know perfect is boring!)
