i have no complaints about Origin. it's quick and doesn't get in the way. i wouldn't purchase anything through the client, but if i need it to play new EA games, i can deal with it.

Pheace: Remember btw that for the newer games (BF3/TOR at least),
I assume this is only for the retail version then? My trial of TOR runs fine without Origin and contained no mention of it whatsoever as far as I could see.

You're right, just googled it and you just need an Origin account for TOR from what I read, not the client, my bad :)

ME3 does I believe though. (but again can't say from experience ... lol). BF3 I KNOW from experience xD

Origin isn't bad, but it's no Impulse. It shares the same retarded requirement as Steam; Always running in the background. Bloatware DRM.

Whatever you read about Origin being spyware and whatnot is not true. I actually tested it myself and had it running for 24h with an app sniffer and it did not scan anything for "personal info" etc.

I knew it trolls are just using the same EULA that most DD service are using and putting it in a bad light in Origin. The whole issue with this is made so publically bad that I read in wikipedia that the alleged "spyware" EULA system Origin uses violated the privacy laws in Germany.

yes, newer EA games generally require Origin the same way SteamWorks games require the Steam client to be active.

that includes BF3, Mass Effect 3, and AFAIK also Need for Speed: The Run, FIFA 12, Syndicate and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (unless you bought it on Steam, then it's a SteamWorks title).

even if that was actually true, the EULA has long been changed and Origin has been proven not to spy on your system. anyone perpetuating the opposite is lying.

No, it's not. Well, it's no worse than Steam or Gamer's Gate in my opinion. I think it's more of the bad reputation EA has with overly obtrusive DRM that leads people to automatically rate it as sub-par, but I've never experienced anything with it that would lead to me believe it's a shite D2D site.

This

Origin is almost the exact same thing as Steam: Bloatware DRM. I do not use it, neither do I reccomend it to anyone

It's just that during it's launch many Steam fanboys attacked it from every front for no real reasons, when steam is almost the same

Account bans if you don't play nice on the forums and forfeiture of legal rights don't exactly compel me to trust the Origin client or EA. Also, some of the games require persistent connections which is not always possible since there are people with unstable or no Internet connections.

I know your paranoid about account bans (I am too) but the forfeiture of your legal rights thing is a little extreme how your saying because am I forfeiting my legal rights here and in steam. People are paranoid that these entertainment companies are so above the law to the point that they could even outright steal your money directly from your credit card from your account or report to the authorities to arrest you for nothing. Come on things are not as dire as they seem man. Also I'm just going to try out Battlefield 3 and SWTOR both online focused games.

Out of interest, why have you asked a question, then heavily defended a particular answer? It's almost as if you came into this question with the answer decided.

Unlike Origin, Steam at least does offer some good features (ingame overlay, friends, screenshots, cloud saving, good interface, possibility to add nonsteam games, convenience).
That is why I do not mind Steam, but running Origin seems pointless.

What I am saying is that EA and other DD services so far has the right to ban people from the service provider,but they would not go to far to screw people by outright stealing money from people's credit card or arrest you under false pretenses. I am not defending anybody I'm just saying what I know

That is why I do not mind Steam, but running Origin seems pointless.
Youd do know that Origin has plenty of those features. From a pure "client" based view it is also a lot slicker and less cumbersome. The store sucks, however. I never bought anything on Origin.

And so far there are only three game that actually require Origin to run, but you can register your EA games from whatever service they came from and play them without Origin running. And Origin doesn't care where you got your DLC from, unless Steam.

I use both services, so I'm open to games on both.

Have you even used Origin? There is overlay, friends, screenshots, cloud. Only feature that it doesn't have it is adding non-origin games. You can add only EA nonOrigin games.
