But there was this time when my internet connection suddently died, with Steam I would have been locked out of all my library for hours or days, until I could connect again, but Origin simply switched itself to offline mode and IT KEPT WORKING. O_O
Steam has an offline mode too I play dragon age origins and morrowind on steam offline all the time

That won't do him any good with either BF3 or TOR probably as they're both multiplayer focused :)

Not to mention it really depends. For a lot of people offline mode simply works. Someone recently posted a rather convincing summary that it has to do with how it was closed last time it seems. If it was closed properly manually it was practically guaranteed to work, however if it is on and you just turn off your computer, the closing process gets interrupted as windows shuts down and some cache remains behind which Steam wants/needs to fix the next time the computer starts up Steam, so it gets stuck in limbo.

That and you need to save your credentials and have started up your game before of course :)

XmXFLUXmX: Most recent was about a month ago, and the person seemed to write in coherent English, + they gave me a 15% discount off of whatever from their store, although I probably wont ever use it. There was no waiting, and the exchange took less than 5 minutes.
Not bad. It seems to be hit and miss though, given what some people around here are saying. (I could mention people on Steam as well but that's not nearly as reliable xD)

Elmofongo: that should not be a problem to me because as I said before all I want to do is play the games and nothing else and mabye the removing people because they don't like you is a good thing in this sense: at least I will not be seeing any trolls or whiny assholes in Origin.
You have inverted it. EA are not removing people because those people do not like you, EA are removing people because EA do not like those people.

Which brings us to the always fluid definition of "They". I wonder who "they" is to you...

Another thing that people are against Origin is that is that it moniters everything about your computer but if thats the case why would EA care about who I really am and whats on my computer because all I am is just an ordinary middle-class person who goes to college nothing more,nothing less. All EA cares about is being in buisness making money.

I dislike Origin because it refuses to work for me. I'm having more issues with Origin than I had with Steam when Steam was brand new, and Steam had a rather bumpy start.

here is at least one forgiving aspect about origin (I don't know if all thier games don't have so correct me) at least it's better than buying an EA game from Steam with SecuRom.

That was just me trying to make some humor about how Valve programmers could learn from Origin. Steam requires an internet connection to switch from online mode to offline, otherwise it refuses to restart.

If you happen to have a poor ISP service like me, either you keep it always in offline mode, or risk being locked out of all the library until you can connect back - it can take day sometimes.

Actually, Origin ain't that bad, the network however is very badly structured.
They went cheap on hardware and network dimentioning and it goes down alot.

However it has some nice features, for example, if you have the games installed somewhere in your system and you add them to the origin it will use your previous install instead of re-installing the game in the games folder like steam.
You can even use the steam installs and add them to Origin...

The patcher seems to work nice and the speeds are quite nice for me (caps at 6.8Mb/s).

The cloud saves worked ok until I started playing mass effect 3... then it started randomly deleting my local and cloud savegames from time to time... not sure if it's a game or origin related problem. It never happened with the other games who support cloud savegames.

Navagon: EA will ban you for virtually any reason. That means losing access to any games that require Origin in any way, shape or form. Therefore getting BF3 is a particularly bad idea if you're not a grand master at brown nosing.
Will they still ban me even if I just want to play thier games nothing more,nothing less because I doubt they would. You're making the service sound too draconian then it is, Because if they are banning so many people right now from major to minor to practically nothing, the service would have collapsed by now because people would leave the service already

It doesn't require that. But there are some things that might prevent it from working, like the thing mentioned above someone recently summarized. It could be the reason it doesn't.

But yeah, overall it's probably more fickle than Origin's.

I still play games offline in steam even without logging online first than go offline

That has been my experience so far, but nevermind that, I don't want to hijack the thread. :)

Bottom line is, Origin works better and faster than Steam for me.

Not anymore, or at least not as far as I can tell at least. My laptop was never set to offline mode while online, but it is currently working quite well in offline mode.

As long as you stay away from their forums you "should" be safe. There were a slew of questionable bannings on there, where people got banned for posting in threads where someone else committed a bannable offense.
Also, there have been reports of people who got banned from ME3 due to playing with people who used a cheat that gave everyone who participated a lot of money, even though they themselves had not know about the cheat, and just found their games through random matchmaking.
So chances are that you won't get banned, but be careful.

Well knowing that I'll stay on the dedicated servers for battlefield 3 and I don't need mass effect 3 on origin cause I already got on xbox because that game is a console port on PC with no controller adapter support

been using it since , nfs pro street and eadm(former name) , its a pretty stable and nice client compared to steam , the offline mode just works prefect , they are introducing new features , the recent one being cloud storage , so it can only become better
