It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Legacy: I just purchased Post Mortem from them since I really liked Still Life and GoG doesn't have it, and had AVG throw up a level 4 malware detected alert on the game.exe file as soon as I tried launching it, urging me to quarantine the file.

Anyone else had problems like this? I hope it's a false positive, I just emailed their support. (Note: I highly doubt it's being infected by anything else, since I'm pretty diligent about good practices and keeping my machines clean, and I haven't had a viral infection in the last 15 years or so.)
Suggestion get rid of AVG.

I had a ton of issues with it, theres a topic of mine around here somewhere, unless its changed MSE seems to be the best.
Abuse has been freeware for quite a few years now. Feel free to download it at any abandonware site, but dotemu should be safer.

Some of you may remember Abuse as a commercial game from a few years ago. It was remade by a group of people as freeware using the graphics of the original. So in all theory this is not abuse but the people who made it did an amazing job at remaking the original.

IIRC it's nothing like metroid though - no items to search for to open new paths, etc. Just a platformer with mouse-controlled free aim.

Was the virus detected by the "signature" engine or by the "heuristic" one ?

The big difference is that with the "heuristic" engine it doesn't means that it detected an actual virus, just that it detected something that "looks like" a virus... but it can be any legit program.

I don't know if it's possible with AVG but with other anti-virus (Kaspersky and MSE) you can send them the file for analysis, either they will confirm that it's really a virus or they will add it to the while list.
I used them once for Broken Sword and didn't have a problem. Not sure what else to say really, they're legitimate.
I used their service to get Robin Hood - The legend of Sherwood and Chicago 1930. Both run fine, no regrets. And I´m thinking on getting Moto Racer 2 from them.

What they're probably referencing is Abuse SDL, an open-source port of Abuse to Linux/OS X with additional options. I know that the original rights holders (the original dev team from Crack Dot Com) made the engine source code open source, but there was nothing said about the games assets being freely available. Note that he said "using the graphics of the original".

In other words, modern ports of Abuse don't make it freeware any more than using Doomsday or zDoom makes Doom/Hexen/Heretic freeware.

A quick search of my Crysis folder reveals no less than 53 DLL files. If you don't want (or won't be allowed by your antivirus) to play games that use DLL files, I suspect you won't play much of anything, ever."

~ I only use the firewall, but the way I understand it, Comodo uses an ever updating list of safe processes, and asks permission for everything else with the ability to save decisions. It can be a massive pain in the ass sometimes, but I feel way safer with it than any other firewall I've used. Since using it I've gotten extremely little in the way of viruses (The rare trojan, even then nothing that wasn't easily removed and/or was probably a false positive), malware, or even spyware, and there's a fair chance the stuff that has gotten through were either false positives from Avira and Emsisoft or personal idiocy on my part.

~ Amusing, because personally I've always considered Avast! bloated and resource hoggish as hell...

On Topic: Has anyone bought Aliens versus Predator from DotEmu? Can anyone absolutely confirm that it's the same rereleased version available on Steam, which has all the Gold Edition and Millennium Pack content?

I was like that too so ran it alongside Norton for a while (went from AVG + Norton to MSE + Norton then ended up with just MSE)

I found MSE was finding thing better than Norton and with barely any FP's

As for the Firewall... yeah I dont use that one.

And it IS free, for how long who knows if MS realise its being well used and that its good they'll probably slap a £35 price tag on it.

It was heuristic.

Thanks for the sanity check. I've switched to MSE for the time being and so far so good.
