Age of Wonders III is in the steam sale at just over £10

that's a massive saving

But I have moved away from Steam a hell of a lot the last 2 years preferring my DRM free versions here

However - Is Age Of Wonders III worth the wait for a sale ?

I want to stick my teeth into the game over the Christmas period, but feel also that I should wait and get it from GOG

Is t the game I am hoping for ? and worth waiting for the GOG sale - or should I have an affair and go over to the dark side? LOL

Sadly, you just missed AOW3 on sale at GOG. It was in the flash deals a few times during the fall / winter sale. If memory serves, it was 66 % off.

67% actually. Everyone was overjoyed with the 40 cents savings. :P

Not quite. It's just that while the sale did kick off with a 66% discount indeed, for some strange reason it became discounted by 67% later and there were comments around about paying/saving 40 cents more.

Is it worth waiting and forget Christmas, or is it that good that you need to play it now.

I tend to find time is a problem and Christmas is that golden opportunity to play a game

I go through the year only getting to play games at weekends and then having to remember controls the following weekend. By the time 2 - 3 weekends have gone I have moved on to a new game, making each purchase really just a big waste when you think of it. Not sure if others go through that cycle but I certainly do - Damn work LOL (Nahhhh I love being in work its just a joke)

So the dilemma I have lives on

Well, i'd say wait until the expansions and DLC's are all out (one more expansion is in the works, if my mind serves me right). That second expansion will add the Necromancer class to the games and prolly a few more scenarios, units and spells.

I don't know if it's worth the wait - 66%/67% wasn't enough of a discount for me to find out.

Buy Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic and sink 200 hours into that over the Holiday period instead. Play the single player campaign to learn the game and then join us in the AoW forum for some multiplayer games where the game and game balance really shines.

P.S. Always worth waiting for the Gold/Diamond/Platinum/GOTY editions of games. Especially when you have a backlog of Gold/Diamond/Platinum/GOTY editions from the past three years waiting already. ;-)

Maybe by then you won't be called a guest if you want to play offline.
