Fenixp: ...
Well you know, a well thrown spear could potentially take down a low flying fighter jet if you think about it, if it gets into the air inlet :D which reminds me, I still have to watch the new SW trailer.

AFnord: Also, while we are on the subject, why does weapons & armour seem to be so incredibly heavy in games? A simple arming sword would weigh just over 1kg, a longsword about 1-1.7kg. In some games they weigh several times that.

JudasIscariot: Fantasy metals weigh more :P
And fantasy heroes have extraordinary strength compared to the average soldier or knight, that's why they can easily use a heavy longsword with just one hand!

darthspudius: In games all Scottish people have Glaswegian accents! Fuckin weegie cunts!
Or posh Edin-scummers - same in films too!

gamefood: I don't like in games (generally), mostly RPGs, when you kill animals and beasts they drop loot when they die... you know what I mean...you kill a wolf or a rat and they drop gold, potions, armory, shields, swords, axes, books... poor hungry thingys -__-
well...

Well, the inverse is also true. It is not uncommon for an RPG character to be lugging around four sets of plate mail, three staffs, five swords of various kinds, two flails, two maces, twenty-five healing potions and around twenty thousand gold coins. And all without impeding his or her movement noticeably.

And don't get me started on all the rats, wolves, bears, etc. that apparently somehow carry around weapons, armor, jewelry and gold coins for lucky adventurers to find upon killing them.

However, a completely realistic RPG would probably be quite boring to play, at least for most people.

Fenixp: See, in most games, knocking enemies out tends to be the most efficient way of getting around them, as opposed to just... Well, sneaking around, whereas I believe that should be the last resort. Oh well.
To be fair, in games you tend to take on the role of the most highly trained / legendary / super-human dude ever who has more expertise in such actions than anybody else out there - I guess it's absolutely legitimate within the boundaries of the games' conventions / universes.

Still, my two favourite stealth franchises are Hitman and Metal Gear Solid and in both of them evading rather than disposing of enemies is highly encouraged and usually much easier than stealth kills / KOs.
this *thing* (Moscow) made me laugh;THX!

KasperHviid: Flint was the material used for anything sharp in prehistoric times. But in Minecraft, it can only be used for arrowheads, while you must use the generic "stone" to create swords, axes, hoes and pickaxes. Kind of annoys me.
That's the kind of stuff I'm really looking for! Very nice catch! :D

Ever heard of Deadly Premonition?, please explain the plot or it's logic without having your head implode from the inside out
The stamina bar and well All the bars in the game make sense

Tarnicus: I caught you being both right and wrong at the same time :P You are indeed correct that fungus does not require photosynthesis. You are incorrect in saying that sunlight does not play a part.
Not saying that it doesn't play a part but the way the scene looked in the game they clearly implied that mushrooms "feed" on light the way plants do, IMO (and please don't be nitpicky about the way I used the word "feed" here :P).

But as tremere110 pointed out, apparently the scene came out very differently in the English translation than the original Japanese version. If he's correct about the way the Japanese dialogue handled the situation I probably wouldn't have complained. :P

tremere110: I believe the entire mushroom thing was something lost in translation. The sidekick was hungry and wished for sun to help the mushrooms grow (in flavor - sun dried shitake are more flavorful than fresh).
Lol, thanks for that input. And I'm shocked that you actually remember that moment in such detail.

I've tried turning this into a joke about heavy metal music but I just can't.

How can something implode inside out? Or is that a joke that's meant to further illustrate the absurdity of the game? :D

awalterj: I wonder how your kids would react to the French fries in red carton boxes one finds in Darkstone's dungeons, it's very atypical food for a high fantasy RPG,
I don't think they have any expectations of what food should be available in a fantasy setting. Maybe I should start them on that, then later on I'll get complaints on the lack of french fries in Lord of the Rings.

F1ach: Lotsa mushrooms in caves in NWN, maybe science just got it wrong? :)
avatar
implord66: They must have come from all those dead adventurers?
That would explain why some mushrooms grow larger than others. ;-)
I hate that you can't kill children in games... That's so stupid :/

It is to prevent you from sacrificing them. :P
