But yeah, I don't mind so much if I can pick up the most valuable loot AND carry my basics but Skyrim just didn't let you do both. I had to drop most of my potions off at home along with all my crafting stuff so each time I wanted to craft something I had to run back and forward and being a thief means I can steal tons of stuff too. In the end, I just cheated with the console and gave me 1500 carry weight otherwise it was feeling like a JOB instead of a game.

Dungeons of Dredmore doesn't let you cheat though, and the limit there is very painful. There's just too many items you need.

Keep all you need for possible crafting (if you have any crafting skills) and some food (you don't need that much food because of the vending machines). Keep better magical items you can't use properly (=you don't have respective skill) in your backpack until the first shop, then sell them to the demon shopkeeper (Brax). Change all the other crap into lutefisk with the Horadric lutefisk cube and if you have, say, 150+ pieces of lutefisk, you have quite a chance to get some nice item at the lutefisk god statue.

Snickersnack: LOL, I'm the opposite. It bothers me that even with limited inventories, most games allow you to carry hundreds of pounds of gear without any penalty (*insert mental image of RE4 trader opening his coat). Few games work well if you try to carry a realistic amount of weight.

Don't even get me started on connected storage chests. ;)

jefequeso: I found that STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl with the LURK mod installed ended up being more realistic than what you usually get in RPGs/RPG-like games. You actually had to limit the amount of ammo and quest items you were carrying, not just the number of huge weapons. And IIRC it directly effected things like your stamina and (possibly) movement speed.

It could be frustrating if you didn't get yourself into the right "I am a Zone survivor, not a hero" mentality, but I kinda liked it.
Sounds pretty cool. Thanks for the recommendation. Do you think Stalker is completeable with this mod? I may bump it up a few positions in my backlog.

I enjoyed the general ammo scarcity in FO3 but it was kind of a bummer that you could carry unlimited amounts it. Unfortunately, a lot of enemies required 5+ head shots to take down and resupply was unpredictable so I never felt comfortable carrying a realistic amount. :(

I believe it's completable, yes. It makes the game a little more unforgiving, but also fixes some bugs and adds some features (such as sleeping and stealth that actually works).

Oddly, when I played through Fallout 3, I found that ammo, weapons, and health were incredibly scarce. I was always having to scavenge and survive. Dunno what I was doing wrong, but it was kinda cool :3.

It wasn't as bad in Skyrim as it was in past TES games.

I went for so long without getting encumbered that I thought they removed that feature at first :P

I have that many ladles stored in my chest.
Depends on the game for me. I actually modded out The Witcher 2's inventory limit because I wanted to collect everything for crafting and alchemy. With Fallout: New Vegas though I played on hard mode so I could have a more limited inventory.

I'm not sure what makes it different, but it is, at least for me. I guess in some games I want to feel more immersed in the world, like I'm surviving there, while in other games I just want to be told a story.

Skyrim lets a level 1 character carry five full suits of plate armor and still outrun a sabre cat with ease. If that's still not enough for you then realism and plausibility apparently don't rank very high on your wishlist. ;)

Personally, I'm waiting for arealism mod that limits carry weight down to something more sensible. But I don't feel the need to loot every bit of junk either. Deciding what to take and what to leave is a part of the game, I wouldn't want to have that taken away from me. Also, the immense carrying capacity that Skyrim offers unfortunately exarcebates the problems of the broken economy. It's way too easy to make money in this game anyway, and the fact that it allows you to carry such an immense amount of stuff makes this problem worse.
I have grown tired of tripping back and forth just to haul loot to sell. In those types of situations I cheat myself some cash and leave the spoils where the fall. However for books and important trinkets it is a must to carry them out - or get a Pony named Bill ;-)

Exactly, and on top of it, these games are also bad for the industry, because they try to educate players to only pick up items they actually need, instead of encouraging them to collect trash. Not a good way to get them to buy more games. ;)
