UPDATE 22.04.2011:
We have uploaded a new version of the Downloader (0.9.0.1218). Please download it at your convenience and let us know if any of the problems you experienced earlier still persist.
Major changes include:
fixed problems with logging on,
the Downloader no longer attempts to move files after changing the destination folder,
you can now change the number of concurrent downloads (1 to 10) in the Downloader's options, in case you think the Downloader is overusing your connection.

Firek: To download a game, you need to make sure the Downloader is running, you are logged on and then open this kind of link in your browser:
gogdownloader://game_product_page_name , for instance gogdownloader://beneath_a_steel_sky
You can't use the "Add to Downloader" button yet.

Destro: interesting - did you change the destination folder during the download maybe? can you please try downloading another game now and see if this happens as well?
I tried again and the download completed successfully.

crazy_dave: I put the link into the web browser and ... nothing happens.

Destro: Can you please open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and do a search for gogdownloader? Do you have a following key there:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\gogdownloader?
Yup I have that registry key.
Downloader isn't working for me. I've installed Adobe AIR, logged in my account in downloader, then klick add to downloaded and nothing happens, except the scroll line becomes a bit longer, with no content to show for.

That wanring about Win 7 users, is this what it's refering to? Does it mean after I click add to downloader I have to wait a few minutes for download to begin?

Sorry if it seems like a noob question, I'm just a gamer, not a prog(r)amer. Get it?

This topic is about the new downloader, which isn't build on AIR. The topic for the "old" one is here.

Even then, I would more recommend you to use the jgogdownloader located here:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/jgogdownloader

It is a community driven downloader, which works already really good.

Hopefully, the new GOG Downloader will work better soon :)
Good I don't have to worry about my Internet connection Dying in the middle of a Download anymore
Late to the party as I just noticed this was available. Downloaded it and it works well under Vista on a 4 year old laptop. My biggest problem with the AIR downloader was it would balloon in memory size, sometimes to over 1G, and stop everything. This seems nicely behaved and staying under 15M. I'm also on a slow connection and this is clearly downloading files faster than previously.

I did have to manually tell Firefox (3.6.16) to use it for gogdownloader:// links.
I've looked around a bit more and done a few things to see if I can break anything. Due to bandwidth, I have only 2 concurrent connections allowed. All in all, it looks great and I couldn't find any real problems. In no particular order:

You'll be happy to know I can't download any games I haven't purchased :(.

If one has a long list of games in the list to be downloaded and holds the mouse down on the up scroll arrow, it will eventually scroll the list of games off the bottom and leave you with a blank screen. Grabbing the scrollbar itself pops everything back up in place. The down scroll arrow does not do the same thing if you're at the bottom of the list.

The ability to switch download order via dragging is a nice feature and works well. If I drag a different program to the top of the list, the currently downloading program pauses and is replaced by the new top item. This is very intuitive.

However, if the list of programs is long and one drags a game beyond the top of bottom of the list, the list does not continue to scroll. It would be nice if dragging a game beyond the top or bottom of the window would continue scrolling in the respective direction.

It would be nice to be able to resize the window (this is a pet peeve - I hate windows that don't let me resize them).

It would be nice to be able delete multiple downloads at once or be able to turn off the confirmation dialog.

Like a previous poster, if internet is disconnected then reconnected, although the downloader realises it is back online, it does not resume download. Logging out and relogging in does not restart the download. The application would then hang (relative to my previous post, memory usage went up to 17.3M) and the process needed to be forcibly terminated.

Upon restarting, it seemed to hang for a minute or so, but did eventually resume downloading.

A second test had different results - the application reconnected and continued downloading. It also remained responsive throughout. The second disconnect was considerably shorter than the first, so perhaps it was busy trying to figure out what was happening and what to do when I previously terminated it and, had I waited, would have come back on its own.

On that topic, on restarting it was automatically logged in - is that because I was logged in through my browser (Firefox 3.6)? Does/will it cache login credentials independently when finally released?

It would be nice if while minimised to the notification area it would tell you the file currently being downloaded along with progress information in the tooltip text.

That said, I can do without the popup notification when a download is complete. Could that be made an option?

Overall, it looks pretty and functions well. I'll look forward to downloading The Witcher 2 with it. Thanks for all the work on this.

Like the AIR-based downloader, I assume it saves your credentials and automatically logs you in after you've done it manually once.
I must admit that the new downloader is disappointing to me:
- it requires twice as much HDD space to download files and create installer,
- because of merging downloaded files - on my old PC it takes ages to process files and check integrity in downloader itself,
- it may solve downloading issues but merging/processing files into installer can cause new problems (i.e. yesterday, integrity check after running Spellforce installer failed despite in-downloader checking...),
- new downloader improves bandwidth usage, but I'd like to be able to limit download speed from time to time.

Can't you just make downloading process and integrity checking similar to those from BitTorrent clients? I don't mean P2P aspect, but downloading ready to use files that aren't divided into tenths of smaller ones that require time to convert into installer without possibility to repair corrupted parts during processing.

(Please forgive me likely ridiculous writing mistakes. ;) )
The great new downloader which lacks a one feature - and estimated time before the download ends
