Frell.. I did miss that. You know I really enjoyed being able to download a game on Linux with a native app. A EXE is a step back for me. You can rant a lot about Adobe (so do I) but at least this stuff works on almost any os.

Now I've to get wine running with each game (that's a game for itself sometimes) *and* the downloader as well.

Hate to tell you this but for me one of the big points why I buy my games on GOG was just thrown out of.. wait.. in the window. Are you starting with DRM crap next?

They only officially support Windows. So they aren't making wrong decisions with going with an .EXE.

I did not ask for support. Repeat until you get that.

Maybe. So what do I have to do to simply add my 2 cents? I could fax too. Posting on some related bbs thread was however my first idea. This is feedback and nothing more.

*shrugs* I do so not care about what the games are officially written for. The only thing I care is about DRM-free. No DRM means usually for me I can get it running without some damn "No CD fix". This is why most games on GOG play nice with wine and vice versa. They even play way more nice on windows as well because of this. You're right that it is my problem when I insist running this stuff on Linux but I do have the right to give feedback about a lost feature of GOG I enjoyed in the past don't I?

I think so,but am not sure. Wouldn't I get latest version when I tried to download? Can't be sure download actually worked as I'm not getting any feedback from site.

Changing the download directory does not do anything - it still downloads to C:\ drive which is a ssd, and almost full, so I cannot download the witcher 2. Also, after i've downloaded a bit of it, moved the files in an attempt to get it working on another drive failed, I moved them back and the downloader doesn't recognise them, so I'm back to the start.

Very very annoying.

Thks Vagabond-got the newest version,1372. Problem is, it won't work either. I'll just go elsewhere and have credit card co refund me. Trying to get ahold of gog support is like trying to fly to another planet.

Ok, finally the downloader started downloading to the right location, so I can actually get the game (Yay!). I also got it to recognise the already downloaded files by adding "_downloading" to the end of the setup_the_witcher_etcetc.bin chunks - so when the gog downloader goes to download that chuck it just realises it's finished and removes the _downloading suffix.

The new downloader is great, really makes getting all those Witcher files a lot easier, thanks guys!

One thing I would like to see implemented though is the ability to modify bandwidth on the fly or at least change the maximum download rate allowed. Some of us in the poorer areas of Europe (Ireland) have slow connections which means web browsing is slow going when downloading files, something which can get infuriating when downloading large files.

Is it possible to view how much of a file has downloaded? I can only see the progress bar.

Okay I'm on dialup but still I've managed to download 4GB worth of stuff since joining with the old downloader.. sure I needed to restart it every 3 hours because the memory leak but I managed to get a solid 15MB/hour out of it...

This new one seems to show the same behaviour that made steam useless to me, it ends up getting about 5MB/hour now and you like steam it runs like a reverse saw tooth.. starts at 5kb/s drops 1 by 1 to 0 kb/s then jumps to 5 again. Its not the connection because after testing it for an hour and getting only the 5MB, it took 28 minutes to download a 7.2MB zip file containing a game manual.
