It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

Cleidophoros: I don't know anything about programming but what I am gonna ask for must be the most difficult feature to implement since no DD service offers it; How about a download speed limit? I have a slow connection and the downloader is using every bit of it.
That's already implemented. You can dial the connections down to as few as 1, I believe.

Setting it to 1 or 15 makes about 5 kb/s difference here.
I am talking about "punch in the maximum speed in kb/s you like to download stuff at"
Creation of a friends' list function and integration of the PM system into the downloader would be a good next step :)

Tormentfan: Exactly why do people use an extra piece of software to dl their games when the browser does the same job, without having to install yet more software?

I've never understood the need for a Gog dowloader.
The downloader is absolutely invaluable when you have a slow 1bit/s connection like I do and try to download something as huge as Amerzone or Fantasy Wars. Connection drops are not uncommon where I am and there is no option to resume HTTP downloads (providing the ability to resume downloads on an authenticated HTTP connection is difficult without opening up security holes).

In short, the GOG Downloader means that I don't have to leave my PC on all night to download a game.

This is very simple feature to add if the library used in the downloader supports it.
For example using libcurl this can be done in one line of code:
curl_easy_setopt(curl_handle, CURLOPT_MAX_RECV_SPEED_LARGE, limit_in_bytes_per_second);

Because it downloads files in chunks, so if you use wireless connection and it gets interrupted, you don't need to download from start?

There are some games on GOG with installers above 1 GB, so it's fairly convenient.

to the topic: the downloader works fine for me. What I would expect from future releases:

* direct access to your game shelf, like it is in steam client
* ability to download extras
* ability to rate the game (when you have nothing more important to do :P)

LBartley: Adding Dragonshard seems to crash the application.

Fallen_Zen: I'll take a look at it. Try re-adding the game to see if the problem occurs again. In the mean time you can send me your log file, details on PM.
Can't seem to download ROTT with the downloader. It keeps resetting the download.

Thanks. Your info helped me find the cause of the problem. On next downloader update it should work fine.

Great! I found another issue: the downloader unpauses whenever another game is added to the queue. If I paused downloads, it gets auto-started again after I add another game.

Fallen_Zen:
No response yet, so I'll ask again here:

Not sure if this has been asked above (too lazy to read the whole thread), but once you roll this downloader, will that mean the current/previous version will no longer work? I am asking this because I am perfectly happy with the current/previous version as it works excellent in Linux with wine.

Don't really like the .NET Framework requirement for the new downloader. Don't really want to use Mono either.
Cool thanks for posting this for some reason the other downloader never seemed to work for me. So far this one is working great.

This new downloader doesn't seem to be able to see existing installers, downloading them again every time even if the existing file is identical (same hash). The old downloader would see existing installers and only overwrite them if they were outdated or broken.

In its current form this means I can't use the downloader to check whether my installers are up to date.

One other very minor note is that the installer and main executable are digitally signed but the uninstaller is not.

Edit: Never mind.

Any chances for a different "Browse For Folder" window? Like a standard 'save as' dialog? One that allows me to write/paste the directory myself? Hmm? Pwetty pwease?;P
