It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

bazilisek: Simple. If it conveniently downloads extras and checks for new builds, I'll use it. Otherwise, I will keep using my browser, because my internet connection is mostly stable. But for some people, stability is a major issue, and browsers don't always resume.

Fallen_Zen: Our list of planned features is getting long. Can't say yet what we have in store but a lot of cool things will be coming to the new downloader.
Updated installer check is essential. Would make our job at GOGWiki much easier.

bazilisek: Random suggestions: I'd like to have an option to turn off the systray icon and use the progress bar of the taskbar icon (Win7). And pretty please, add the option of using the downloader to grab all extras at once. Also, are you planning to do an automatic check for updated installers? That would be sweet.
Give me all of this and maybe I'll bake you a cake.
Glad you're looking into Mono! There's a Mono-compatibility checker - the Mono Migration Analyzer - you can run a program though that (mostly) will tell you if changes are needed. It's on the Mono download page if you pick WIndows as your operating system, not sure about where else to grab it.
Adding Dragonshard seems to crash the application.

I'll take a look at it. Try re-adding the game to see if the problem occurs again. In the mean time you can send me your log file, details on PM.

Don't know what is in your list but check for updated intallers/extras/new additional content should be right on the top of it.

I may be oldfashioned but I like application to have standard minimize/maximize/close buttons + when minimized right click gives me kind of restore window option

EDIT: I guess it's intended but I don't like that after downloading a game it immediately starts installation process.

Change it under settings.
Not sure if this has been asked above (too lazy to read the whole thread), but once you roll this downloader, will that mean the current/previous version will no longer work? I am asking this because I am perfectly happy with the current/previous version as it works excellent in Linux with wine.

Don't really like the .NET Framework requirement for the new downloader. Don't really want to use Mono either.

kavazovangel: Oh, thanks.. Any chance of upgrading it to 4.0? Currently on Windows 8, 4.0 is the minimum version that is supported by default.

4.0 is already supported on XP, Vista, and 7, and if you're targeting the client profile, it would require even less space for installation.

(just some pre-downloading feedback, trying to download the file but getting disconnects when it reaches around 50-60%)

Fallen_Zen: enjoy the downloader
Nobody's ever said that before!
I really want to try the downloader but I am halfway through downloading "The Witcher" on my rather slow internet connection via the old downloader.

If I use the new one will I lose my current progress? Will the new one be able to detect the "chunks" already present in my download folder and finish the job?

Fuzzyfireball: Change it under settings.
Ok, thanx
So far it's stable. After set the concurrent connection to 15, my download speed is steady at 1mbps - 1.2mbps. Same as previous version, i don't know what's the difference, except for the number of concurrent connection (1 - 15 compared to previous version, 1 - 10).

Why not use a native client?
http://gogwiki.com/wiki/Download_Clients
Most of them have more features than the old official client

I believe so, assuming that your download directory is the same as the old downloader's. It worked for me but not sure how reliable it is to try that without assurance from the dev.

Something else you can do is keep downloading that game in the old downloader and use the new downloader for all your games from here on. You can have them both running at the same time without problems (I guess as long as their not both trying to download the same game)
I don't know anything about programming but what I am gonna ask for must be the most difficult feature to implement since no DD service offers it; How about a download speed limit? I have a slow connection and the downloader is using every bit of it.
