It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

SLP2000: So, GOG client, just not mandatory?
Nope, just another option of downloading our games :)

Tormentfan: I've never understood the need for a Gog dowloader.
As I've said, it is just an option, we won't force anyone to use it.

HGiles: Random question: Have you thought about making sure this runs on Mono? Then Linux and Mac users can use this out of the box.
Mono doesn't seem to run it as it currently is - or I just don't know enough about mono to tell it what tricks are needed.

Tormentfan: Exactly why do people use an extra piece of software to dl their games when the browser does the same job, without having to install yet more software?

I've never understood the need for a Gog dowloader.
Simple. If it conveniently downloads extras and checks for new builds, I'll use it. Otherwise, I will keep using my browser, because my internet connection is mostly stable. But for some people, stability is a major issue, and browsers don't always resume.

Yeah, and "introducing new features" (see post 1) was never on the table?

Really, I have nothing against new client (even if you avoid this word) as long as it won't be necessary to download games.

Dude.. I wasn't suggesting it was anything other than an option.
I think it's pretty cool that GOG spends resources on making downloads more comfortable without succumbing to the temptation of using such a feature to exert more control over its customers. Thumbs up! :)

@Tormentfan: Personally I prefer to use the GOG downloader because it (a) allows me to queue several downloads, (b) automatically resumes severed downloads, (c) error-checks the download, and (d) is able to selectively re-download parts that don't pass this check. My browser doesn't provide this functionality. I don't "need" a downloader, to pick up your choice of words, but it certainly makes my (GOG-)life easier, so I'm happy to see it receiving further development. :)
And I'm just ensuring everyone that it was and will still be an option :)

Neat trick.. a reply notification without a quote. Heh.

Our list of planned features is getting long. Can't say yet what we have in store but a lot of cool things will be coming to the new downloader.

Hats? Achievements? :D

(sorry for going off topic, managed to download it, will run it in my XP VM in a few hours to try it out.)
Yup, the only requirement is that you click the reply button, even if you remove the quote, it's still marked as a reply (and on the other side of the coin, adding a quote does not automatically mark it as a reply to that person... unless that was fixed).
Ah-HAAAA.

Secrets and secrets. ;)

I've never understood the need for a Gog dowloader.
Because when I download larger games through my browser it always fucks up.
