We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

Palanor: Yes, exactly like that.

I made a very quick video for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTE4gMY_cZ4&feature=youtu.be . Excuse the quality but hopefully you'll see the problem. I truly hope the feedback helps.

edit:
Oh it turned out in 1080p, nvm the quality comment XD
Ok, any very special characters you're using? Try changing the password on the site and see if this works out. Thanks for the vid ;))

Oh, and did the password work on the new downloader before?
Post edited March 22, 2012 by Fallen_Zen
nope, no weird symbols, just letters and numbers ;)

However, I did as you said and changed the password anyway and for some reason it actually worked. (Exactly the same password, except with a capital letter added). Currently logged in ^^. Have no clue why it worked, but I'm not a professional programmer, just know the basics :p.

Thanks for the advice, going to try the program now hehe.

Edit:
My old password worked fine on the old downloader :)

Alright, glad it worked. Can you send me your log file anyway? Maybe this will give me more clues.
Got this exception while trying to download Treasure Adventure Game:

*scratches head* I'd love to send you the log file, but I can't find any. C:\Users\MYNAME\Appdata\Roaming\GoG.com only contains 2 .bin files (the games I added to the downloader) and there's nothing in the GoG.com download directory and none in the GoG.com installation directory :p

EDIT:

Hmm, restarted the program (like many times before) and now it created a log file... -_- Still want it? Doubt it will help much though since it's working now :\

Ok, will debug that, try restarting the downloader and re-downloading the game. Thanks :)

You're welcome and thanks for working on this updated downloader as well.
Restarting the downloader picked things up without a hitch. Downloaded and verified.

Well that's what I'm paid for and besides I love my job ;)

Can you send me your log file just in case? Details on PM. Thanks again.
We've pushed a new update which includes mostly some visual changes and bug fixes.

If you encounter any problems, please let me know.

I've tried changing my password, added capital letters to my password/special characters/shortened it, removing the registry key via regedit, and reinstalling/uninstalling and restarting to no effect. It'll crash upon startup when (I'm assuming.) I'm logged in. If I delete the registry key and drop in my password and user name, it'll just re-pop with a screen asking me to log in over and over repeatedly. Close it and restart it and it just crashes. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Posting a new log file after all the updates and different attempts.

Could you post your current system specs and OS? Since when it is happening?

Thanks for testing ;)
I really like the small 10mb file parts from the install DL... crashing connection via software, unplugging the network cable, or powering down my switch switch did not ruin my downloads. Everything resumed and hit maximum down speed for my connection (which i never had from you before)

occasionally focus doesn't switch, and the right click menu on downloads lags or doesn't show. If you left click and focus in the right click menu starts working again.

The combining of 10meg temp files to the main installer and its parts happens very quickly. No issues with that at all even with a multi-part 3gb installer.

once the app grabs the bandwidth its reluctant to let go, of it for other applications sometimes.

Bug or Design? once you close the app and open it all downloaded programs clear from the application

suggestion: add a button to take you to download location specified in settings

suggestion keep files resident in application until user clears them even after the app is closed.

suggestion: add an option to download all bonus content though your app.

suggestion: have app check file version and notify if you upload a new version of the game (like a patched install) This would come in handy like when The Witcher 2 converts from King Slayer edition to Enhanced.

Glad it's working :)

I'll take a look at it, to make it more responsive.

Well we don't do anything on purpose, so it's rather a normal behavior.

The completed downloads are cleared from the list when closing the app on purpose. Why would you want a terribly long list?

There's a magnifying glass icon besides every download, it will take you to the folder you're downloading to.

As for the bonus content, no comment for now :)

As for the checking current downloaded builds. I already have a version here locally that is able to verify the previous download upon adding to the list. If it is the same as on the servers, it marks it completed, if not, it is re-downloaded.

Thanks again for testing and suggestions.
