Aliasalpha: The real interplay died years ago, whats left now is another company wearing a suit made of the flesh of the dead

cjrgreen: Well said.

Interplay has been nothing but Herve Caen's personal cash cow since he pulled the Titus takeover, drove out Brian Fargo, and killed off Black Isle. They will never amount to anything again so long as Herve Caen is in charge.
Well, Chris Taylor is still there, working on the V13 thing. Not much besides that though, at least as far as I know.

RatherDashing: What would happen to the GOG selection should Interplay go under? I mean, assuming anyone that buys Interplay's IPs doesn't continue the relationship with GOG. Would the games disappear from the store? If so, would they then be pulled from people's "My Account" pages?
They would disappear from the store, but remain under your account tab. You've paid for the games and whatever licensing fees were involved were dispensed. The copy would remain yours to keep regardless of what happens to Interplay.

Sort of the same situation as what happened on the rare occasions when GOG had to pull a title.

Thanks. I haven't owned a pulled title yet, so this would be the first time something like this would have really affected me.

Delixe: It hasn't happened before so no reason to assume it would happen now. At the very least the DRM-free nature of GOG games means you can simply back up the installers on discs so you will never lose them.
Exactly
Damn it interplay, ink a deal with some of those guys from the hardlight site to build official expansions to the Freespace games, then sell them on GOG for $5-$10 each scenario and then split the profits!

If you walk in and slap down an official I.O.U. to the modding community stating that you will, at some point in the near future, release a third Freespace game: you will have people clawing through your front door in order to literally throw their work at you.

*edit* didn't spell check.

To buy now or not to buy now, that is the question..

If you like the games, buy now, rather than waiting for a promo that may never happen, and risk the catalog disappearing.

Waits for Xyzem to reply......
Why do people care about Interplay as it exists today? It doesn't even remotely resemble the company it used to be when those games were published and all of the developers have long since moved on. Let it rot.

Metro09: Why do people care about Interplay as it exists today?
Because the Interplay that exists today is working with GOG?

read this: http://www.interplay.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=18241

the short of it is that whoever made those statements about Interplay is a dumbass and more than likely a bethshitia supporter.

interplay still has plenty of funding and most of that debt is left over from their bankruptcy, just like how I have got about 8 grand on my credit cards and and 16 grand in student loans but that still doesn't mean I live in a cardboard box.

by all means buy the shit out of Interplay's stuff (and we are long overdue for a sale) but it's not panic time ....

Start? My backup system works fine thanks :D

Sogi-Ya: ..snip..
Seriously, if you had posted that just a moment sooner... :P

Oh well, it cleared a lot off my "to buy" list. Not a snap decision either, I saw this topic when it was first made and have been considering it for a while. Never mind :)
