I mean lots of them. At the moment there are over 1700 titles in search results.

Just a warning: I tried couple of them and there were tons of sound issues.
Classic dos games has that too, it got fewer games (540) though.
+1 for both of you for these links, nice...

Can they be downloaded instead of streamed? :-)

I haven't noticed any download links, so I assume they're not intended to be downloaded.

cough However, removing pretty obvious part of URL in an attempt to get .zip archive results in displaying a pretty useful error page. >.>
No thanks, that's useless to me. What's the meaning of playing DOS games if you cannot tinker with the command prompt, on your own computer? Once a DOS gamer, always a DOS gamer. Kids these days use a toy-like Web browser and they think they are playing a DOS game....

What exactly is the legal status of these? I understand that archive.org has some sort of a special legal standing that sets it apart from the "abandonware" sites, but I'm not sure what it covers.
They have Manhunter. Time to step up, Gog =)
EDIT:

Removed game download guide, downloading the games' files is possible with a quick url edit but I see that some of them are still being sold, even here on GOG.

The number of games has fallen from yesterday to today (there are now 53 pages instead of 60). Does anybody know what happened?

There is also an article with more background on the emulation of games in the internet archive.

I wouldn't say there is any special legal standing as such. Its more that the more legitimate the project appears often leads to developers not pursuing legal action. Its still very likely copyright infringement, but the lack of advertisers and relying solely on server donations, if true, alleviates the claim they are profiting from it.

It probably also helps they are limiting themselves to the DOS era, as developers are less likely to port those games for sale given the graphical limitations.
