So who enjoys IF games? Not only Infocom, but some of the newer ones? I came across a cool site in Twitter today http://emshort.wordpress.com/reading-if/ and it reminded me of some GOGs.
Personally, I really enjoyed Jigsaw, Spider and Web, Zork: The Undiscovered Underground, amongst others.
Any other faves?
Does erotica count? :D
It's morning, you look out upon your bedroom. Light is spread out across the floor. Your things shine in the light.
Do you:
A:) Get out of bed?
B:) Sleep in!

Uh, for the sake of this discussion, let's say no. "Good" has a few definitions to uphold...

I was a big fan of many IF games on the 8 bit machines. Delta 4, zenobi and even some cheesy Firebird titles such as Subsunk and Seabase Delta. The infocom games are fantastic but some were just too tough. I still have the infocom CD collection somewhere (paid silly money on ebay for that one). Would be nice to see that collection on GOG.
After moving to point and click games i didn't play any for ages but have just started getting back into the zenobi games after buying the zenobi DVD from their website (Spectrum and Atari ST collection). I have been thinking about trying out some of the infocom games again i just don't think i would have the patience now.

What? You just got here. I told you, it's MORNING. You were coding interactive fiction games all night and only got home at dawn. If only you had remembered to fill Ye Flask.

You don't have time to sleep in, you start work in 15 minutes!
Heh, I've got a dozen of those on my hard drive waiting to be played. The ones that I *have* played - Photopia, Galatea, Anchorhead and a few others - I enjoyed quite a bit.
It's just that most of IFs, both old and modern, simply are not something you can easily pick up and play. Even the mechanically simpler ones usually demand lot of attention to the storyline and in-game events.
I wonder what would it be like to make your own IF in Inform or other languages.
edit: As for the faves, I would say Photopia or Shrapnel. They are not very interactive, but both have a gripping narrative and use the medium as their advantage rather than vice-versa.

I tried dabbling in Inform about 10 years ago or so... it was fascinating! That is one very rewarding language. I think they should begin introductory programming classes with Inform, actually.
Heck, Weclock basically started his own game a few posts above.

A) Turn around and sleep in anyway, because there's no way you'll be on time even if you were to start walking now, not to mention getting dressed, showering and eating breakfast.

Plus, it's still seems to be in quite active development, at least judging by their website. http://inform7.com/

What, dry? If you at least had some tea you could wash it down.
I played some of the Infocom games back in the 90's. The ones I remember playing are:
Planetfall
Seastalker
A Mind Forever Voyaging
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Bureaucracy
Also, I used to spend an awful lot of time on the Danish Valheru MUD.
