Hello fellow gog'ers

I checked some sites but i just can't figure it out. I just bought witchaven 2 on a flea market for 1 euro and have to install it using dosbox. I'm a complete idiot with dosbox though so i tried some things but i can't figure it out. Can somebody give me a step by step how to do this? This will probably take you some time so I understand if it's too much.

Thanks
The only solution I've found is to make an .ISO of the disc, and mount that with DOSBox.
mount D D:\ -t cdrom

D is the letter you want the mounted drive to have.
D:\ is the physical drive.

After mounting the drive, type D: to access the drive, and type install to start the installation software.

You maybe want to take a look on D-Fend Reloaded. It's a graphical user-interface for dosbox and has some tools to install games from cd. Download the program, start it, go to profile/install from source media/Install from real cd drive. Dosbox with the mounted cd-drive should start and you can install the game the old way.

If you don't want to use your cd, use an external image program like ImgBurn to make bin files first and then use "Install from CD image" instead of "install from cd drive".

Edit: Yes, lately I'm making very often advertisement for it, but it's really a great program.

Edit2: After testing it myself I corrected my post. It seems D-Fend Reloaded doesn't make image files automatically. Also the internal image reader makes only iso-files without ripping additional audio tracks. The best solution would be to use an external image program and then use D-Fend Reloaded to install from the image.

If it plays music off the CD and you want to play the game off an image, make sure to rip it to .bin/.cue and mount the .cue file.

This is what I've always done and never had problems. Is there some reason why this wouldn't work?

No, of course not. The good thing about D-Fend is you easily can change settings via a gui. If he wants to play from an image the configuration is more comfortable.
the thing is i don't really understand what i'm doing so nothing makes sense and i start to doubt. It's silly really because when i was a child i did work with dos and had zero problems....

It sounds more complicated then it is, so dont' worry ;-) There are also some basics very well explained in the DosBox wiki:

Mounting cd-drives: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/IMGMOUNT
