After 20 years, the (classic?) adventure game Inherit the Earth might be getting a proper sequel that takes place after the long-running webcomic.

The Kickstarter campaign launches tomorrow, but you can currently preview an abridged version on the game's website. There will be more information when the Kickstarter goes live, a project video, and maybe even a playable alpha.

I don't usually get involved with these Kickstarter things, but I did really like the original game, and I hope this can get some support. :)

EDIT: It's alive.

As much as I'd like ITE2, they've already failed one kickstarter, and this new one doesn't give me much more to go on. That Sand and Shadows prototype screenshot looks amateur hour at best and doesn't inspire any confidence in the project.

Yeah, that last Kickstarter was a wreck. I think this one does look promising, though. There's not a lot to go on now, but there'll be a lot more information when it actually starts. I'm hoping the game looks a lot better in motion than in the screenshot, but I'll wait until I see some gameplay footage before I judge.
They should use the AGS engine so it has the same pixel-art look as the original.

No motion could salvage the artwork if it looks as bad as that one screenshot. I really hope that's nothing more than a placeholder before they put down real artwork... I mean the header and other character art on the page look decent enough, why use what looks like a bad flash game as your first screenshot?

I could get behind that too.

That would be great, but they probably think they're reaching out to newer audiences by "updating" the graphics.
I do hope they'll go in entirely different direction with character art than they have on those prototype pics. The style is absolutely horrendous.

And no, I'd prefer the game to have nice high resolution artwork. The world has enough retro throwbacks already.
Back when they did their first Kickstarter, the adventure genre was still being considered a bit like "past stuff".

I think that, nowadays, with all the new focus in adventure gaming, they could get more attention.

EDIT: Aaaaaand here it is, complete with playable alpha: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1867564967/inherit-the-earth-sand-and-shadows?ref=nav_search
I am not impressed. :/ It does, however, say all artwork is preliminary, so maybe it is just a placeholder. Maybe most of the Kickstarter budget is for hiring an animator?

The character design is the weakest point of this. The engine they use seems okay. I like the design of Riff on the concept painting a lot more than what they use on the proto itself.

Oh god it's worse that I expected, what in God's green earth have they done to Rhene? D:

Even if this is nothing more than temporary artwork, this is the kind of first impression you do not want to make.

Wow, I didn't even know there was an ongoing webcomic.

It's a little strange, but it's a good read, at least for the Little Wolf Lost parts.
160k... something's telling me they're not gonna make it.
