Will still play this game. Expected nothing less as it is developed FOR x-box 360. Am not mad at that at all. Though, completely think it will SUCK. Fallout 3 was great because it was so distinct from the Elder Scrolls style, and so as fans of the originals to rework one of their favorite game franchises in their image was their joy.
As far as 2k goes, for development the Marin studio made Bio-shock. Loved that game. But folks who helped make it left? Am wary for this- #2 felt more like an yearly update they should have left as extra content to the first. Thats their contribution, and now the itty bitty babies in their hands. Got the whole world in their hands.
I hope they make me eat my words.

Flashdrive: Well, seeing as there's a trailer out now, I think this topic deserves a bump.
I don't have a clue how this is X-COM related.

I don't remember the original games being centred around demonic tar. Is this game being part-funded by the anti-smoking lobby?
I actually really like the 1950's setting and think it'd be kinda cool as like the precursor for the modern X-Com, but yeah, if they don't at least touch up the sound and art design and have the alien menace be a bit less generic than X-Files black oil I'm going to be pretty let-down.
All things considered it could be a hell of a lot worse, like Terror from the Deep or Enforcer worse.

According to Youtube comments, those are the oil minions of BP who is trying to take over the world.

The best thing that we can expect out of this game are the timely BP analogies.
As bad as I thought, its Destroy All Humans from a first person human perspective
It's either BP or Venom has really let himself go since Spider-Man 3.

The Gulf oil spill is truly a terror from the deep.

It looks more like Condemned 3 battling the residents of World of Goo in an idealised 60s. Couldn't be less XCOM if it was a pinball game.

Ha! Congratulations! I think you're the first person to be able to draw a connection between this game and XCOM.

I was trying to remain optimistic about the game despite the fact it seemed to have nothing to do with the original series, but it sounds boring.
From what we can see on the trailer, it's all about fighting one pile of black goo (which attacks like the facehuggers from Alien, how original), then two piles, then three,...
What part of that concept sounded good on paper exactly? Frankly, it makes you wonder where developpers get their ideas, and not in a good way.

Oh, God. The horror
It cannot be unseen now.

To quote Futurama
YOU WATCHED IT, YOU CAN'T UNWATCH IT!
I find the concept interesting, but I have two issues.
Firstly, it doesn't look anything like an X-COM game (far more like Bioshock in style really).
Secondly I'm not sure they'll deliver on any of the promises about it being faithful to the other games.
The research appears to be the same as bioshock (take photos, get bonuses).
The general feel of the trailer is of a shooter.
Why couldn't they just have made it a different name?

Watch out, someone might come in and start making snide remarks about you just for bashing the game based on a trailer alone ;)

Heh well I'll bash the trailer, if it's true to the xcom franchise then the trailer did a fuck of a good job hiding the fact
