Wishbone: Sad, yes. But it is justified to some degree. We've seen too much crap like
this. So we tend to assume the worst, because the worst is what we frequently get.
Sure, I can get that. It's not like I have taken everything that comes out with a smile. Oh how I mourn what Spore could have been for instance. Instead we got some watered down cutesy stuff. It was still fun for a little while, but it was not the game I envisioned to be playing for ages.
cw8: You need to play it then to see why most of us are bitching about it. It's that great.
I'm am negative and pessimistic. I get that on one other forum too. But I prefer to be pessimistic than be optimistic and then let my hopes come all crashing down all the time.
I have it on my "must-play" list. But I know that playing it will not change the fact that I might love this new game, and I still am very much intrigued by it now after I read up on the first games. I haven't read up on them until now, but after doing so, I see that the new game is more faithful to the old games than you guys have been saying. Hear me out:
It seems this game can be looked at like a prequel to the first game. This is before any aliens have really come out in the open so to speak, so Earth doesn't have the X-Com Unit yet.
You travel around the map investigating instead of directly answering an alien threat. You have to reverse engineer their technology (the taking pictures for your "Q" guy) in order to beat them. Because of these things which are more or less lifted from the other games, there might be more in the works. You might be upgrading your base in between missions.
Since we don't have much information yet, this might very well be the case. If it is, then this will be an even more awesome game, as it is a prequel to the first X-com game. Which makes sense, since this game is set during the 1960's or something, according to the evidence on the ARG site. If not then it might just be a cool game with the X-com name. I can see why people are upset about that, but it might still be an awesome game.
I wonder how old you are... I too was under the impression that being pessimistic would rule out the disappointment of "failure". But then I broke my back at the age of 19. During the six month recovery I realized that I'd rather enjoy life, so now I just enjoy whatever I can. So what if the game doesn't meet my expectations. There are plenty of other games out there, so no need to get down because of one game. Now I am only 23 years old, so I am not an "old wise man" (or old coot if you don't like me for being interested in this game), but I still think I speak the wise truth there.
Aliasalpha: Optimism is the wife of disappointment
I direct you to the paragraph above. Enjoy life instead. It's very short.
