Gundato: And if you aren't interested in talking about the game, why are you in the thread? That actually DOES make you insane. Just saying :p
avatar
Delixe: I tip my hat to you sir, thats superb twisting of what I said. Unless you mean we can only talk in this thread if we are positive about it?
They don't show research or strategic components because there are none. That much is painfully obvious from the trailer. 2K have outright LIED about that. Hence people like me are rather annoyed. What we see in that trailer is a generic shooter with a camera and the Bioshock engine. Incedentally everything we were worried about when it was first announced. People give Obsidian a hard time about how short a time they have had to work on Fallout: NV. How long have 2K Marlin been working on this? 1 Year? 6 Months?

Apologies, I must have misunderstood. Is "picking our noses" slang for "Discussing the game"? I get so confused with all this new fangled slang.
And want me to go make a video of Rome Total War? I can apparently convince you that it is a game that is ONLY about looking at family trees and all that fun junk. Because apparently, if you don't put something in a trailer, it doesn't exist :p

And there you go again with your ridiculous analogies. If Sega announced there would be a Total War FPS with some strategic elements then you can bet we would all be acting the same way.
"Picking our noses" was meant to be funny. Something you would rather do than play an XCOM FPS. Evidently you are more interested in trolling. 2K, Steam, Stardock, DRM... is there anyone you wont defend? If you are not a defence lawyer then your talents are being wasted/

Flashdrive: Well, seeing as there's a trailer out now, I think this topic deserves a bump.
I don't have a clue how this is X-COM related.

This game has exactly what it common with earlier X-COM games? Are they running out of names or something so they have to use names from old franchises in new games that have nothing in commong with previous games in the series?

I ask this every time someone like you says that crap:
How many meaningless "I agree" and "True that" and "Quoted for truth"s do I have to make to have valid opinions in your mind?
And that wasn't an analogy. I honestly think you would believe that. Seriously, go look at a lot of trailers associated with games. Hell, I think Total War games actually DO tend to have "Tactical trailer" and "Strategic trailer", just with the appropriate names. :p

If you can find an example of me saying any of those phrases without an explanation I will give you any game you choose on GOG.

Way to miss the point.
Clearly, if I don't meaninglessly agree with people, I am nothing but a troll. I mean, it is either that or I don't see the point of posting if I don't feel I have anything to add. So how many meaningless agreements do I need to make to get credit?
And again, you still haven't responded to why it is okay for Total War games to have trailers focusing on one or two aspects of the game, but not for this.

As you missed mine earlier brilliantly. I guess we are even.

All I said was you are wasted if you are not a defence lawyer. Which is true. As to why you feel you have to defend something against the vast majority, well thats up to you.

Because Total War fans know what they are getting. They may dislike certain directions but the game is still Total War. What 2K have done here is take a strategy game and made a generic FPS out of it. There is no comparison. Look at the people drooling over Shogun 2 as we speak.

So basically, because you already know that there is going to be a strategic component, you don't need to see a trailer.
What do you call the previews that have mentioned the strategic component?

Lies I believe I called them. You go off on these tangents don't you? If seem to be your favourite word. The fact is Sega will never make The Creative Assembly make an FPS Total War game. It's a stupid analogy. 2K however are looking at their books and see X-Com so they decide to slap that name on generic Bioshock FPS #4

Ah. I see. Anything supporting the game not being a complete bastardization of the series is a "lie". Anything that you extrapolate from the data you haven't ruled out is fact.
Well, you convinced me.

Gundato: Well, you convinced me.

I'm sorry was Medieval 2 an FPS? Was ROME an FPS? Was Empire an FPS? Was Napoleon an FPS? Will Shogun 2 be an FPS? Chances are no.
Get a better analogy.

Raneman25: Everyone has been calling it "World of Goo 2."
Not XCOM.

That would be trademark infrigment :-p How about Obama vs. British Petroleum

CIV 6 oh yeah.

Oh, I see. So only FPSs need to have every single component of the game in every single trailer.
In that case, I can see why people hated Fallout 3. There was no repairing of stuff. And you couldn't buy anything. Oh yeah, and you couldn't level up!!! I mean, all the early trailers showed was shooting stuff, VATS, and dialogue.
Ooh, or Oblivion. That had no alchemy. Pretty sure the first trailer didn't show alchemy.
Seriously though, there is not much point in me trying to say anything to you. Clearly you are just looking for an excuse to hate this game. And honestly, you will probably be justified in the long run. But when your arguments are "This is an FPS, it is special!" and "Oh, that is a lie because it doesn't support the conclusion I want", then I am not going to waste my time. I have better ways to waste my time.
I just watched the trailer and...yeah, it looks like Bioshock with black goopy blobs.
