Crassmaster: There is one reason security would show up un-announced...and that's somebody getting shit-canned. I sense some IW management are about to end up out of work.

You know that does actually make sense, a meeting with some heads and the people running them. Security shows up. Hell I had security watching me when I emptied my locker at the hospital I worked at, might be same thing but in CEO format :)
IW being disbanded would be even better, but cutting off the head of the snake would likely fix a lot of their problems.

Red_Avatar: It's not about the server things in MW2 being shit - it's about how they handled the situation and how they treated their loyal fans who they owe their success. I always try to separate the game from the developer but in this case, the developer basically pissed all over the audience that made it successful.
First of all, they lied during interviews. Then they downplayed the problems with the new system, denied there would be certain problems only for there to BE such problems upon release, then mocked those that claimed there would be problems, etc. That's why I said that Activision is not the only one to blame for the mess. Both parties have done some screwed up things that made them unpopular with PC gamers, me included.
Having said that, I don't wish bad luck to fall on them but neither do I care if it does - karma and all. Not when it involves the head honchos anyway since they were directly responsible for the mess.

Gotcha.

You do realize the developer has nothing to say about the game, that that is wholly done by upper management and all?

chautemoc: Ugh. This is way too far for a publicity stunt.

EA did several "way too far" marketing stunts for Dante's Inferno, all of which succeeded in conning at least some people into believing that they were real.
Nobody employs plain-clothes "bouncer-types"; private security guards have uniforms of some sort, and if they were undercover cops they would present a warrant or at least flash a badge. Unless this is a stunt by Something Awful (or a similar site) it is clearly a feeble attempt at making people care about Infinity Ward again.

Yeah, I've been there too. :)
I'm not hoping for any massive job losses...enough have been lost already. As someone who is currently out of work, I don't wish unemployment on anyone. Besides, IW can actually develop good material...they've proven it in the past.

A big time developer like this will always have some say since they could just pack their bags and go to another publisher for their next game, although I agree there are limits, but what annoyed me was how poorly they treated their community - did you read the interviews which basically made the PC community out to be whining snobs with unfounded worries (while the worries were far from unfounded)? They should have had the integrity to be honest about it instead of acting as if it's really the best for the game.
Another thing to take into account is that Infinity Ward was slated to release the first Modern Warfare 2 DLC pack very soon; what better way to do so than by drawing attention away from Bad Company 2 with some press attention before dropping the payload?

If it's not a publicity stunt, it may be private security hired to pick up personal effects in case of someone getting fired. They often do this for big firms to avoid anything vital getting stolen or sabotage being committed. They may also want to prevent the workers from getting upset and agitated. But again, why so many and why would they stand outside? I'd say, just wait it out and see. If it's publicity, it will backfire because people won't appreciate this.
Indeed, only feasible things are someone is getting laid off or dumb publicity stunt. Either way I don't like COD4 and MW2, didn't buy either, and love Bad Company 2 so hah!
I thoroughly enjoyed CoD4, the multiplayer was fast paced and had some interesting touches, such as the well touted perk system that allowed for some interesting and fun gameplay secenarios. I felt this was aided by the simple map layouts that provided layers of depth and lots of replayability.
So then, Modern Warfare 2 - Killstreak hell, where it's possible to die repeatedly, over and over from 'air support' where you stand no chance of escape or retaliation 90% of the time, maps that are dark and gloomy not to mention full of ridiculous hidey holes and camping spots that dilute the overall experience, epic gun fights? Hell no! Don't bother taking cover, either. Folk just shoot right through it. -_-
The plentiful camping spots are worsened by peeps camping for killstreaks so you're left with a pretty frustrating game I'd say.
Then there are the maps, the majority of which are either nothing special or just plain bad. Wasteland? Who thought that would be a good idea?? I'm sorry I bought into the hype and shelled out 30 for it to be honest.
There's a really good game in there somewhere but I'm not investing anymore time into what is just a cheap update of CoD2007 that's been overcomplicated with ridiculous amounts of ways to kill people when there isn't any need.
Sorry for the rant, and going totally off topic!! :(

Jason West, CTO and producer of Modern Warfare 2 is out of a job.
If this is Activision's way of telling Infinity Ward that they have to treat their customers better, I think the combined mass of irony may make the universe collapse in on itself.

I think I see a portal storm brewing.

Well, then it all makes sense. Bouncers are there to avoid anything vital getting taken from the offices. EA did the same with Peter Mollyneux after he announced he'd leave.
Activision SEC filing made today:
The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward. This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company.
