Ah, that makes more sense. If the games are from different developers, they'd get charged the same amount regardless though. Assuming you added a tip, Indievania would certainly benefit from it all being in one transaction.

No, like Leroux explained it's more the wish that they can safe that fee and keep the money. There are some shops that directly forward the fees to you, but that's seems here not the casae.

I was just about to point you to a GOG thread about that game (recalling it was made by one of us) when I discovered what you did there...

See my comment above, but also the money does go directly to the developer's paypal, so the fees are charged when the developer receives payment. This means that even if you did it in one transaction, the separate developers would individually be charged. Of course, if you were buying multiple games from one developer then they'd see a benefit.

Ah, I see. The developers get directly paid. I thought Indievania holds the money and there is only one big payout a week or month.

Just so you know, this is a fun game, but there is no sound and music under XP. Unless you disable the hardware acceleration each time you want to play the game. Which means that you will have to reboot your computer each time you disable/enable that option.

I think something about this might be the reason they don't do orders for multiple games.

I only played it under Vista and Win7 and it worked fine for me.

And you're right. Bought both games. Money goes directly to the developer, donation is split half-half between developer and Indievania.

I bought it a while ago based on a review by RPS ; in brief it's a streamlined "neo-roguelike" in the same general vein as Desktop Dungeons or Dungeons of Dreadmore. The gimmicks here are the delightful 8-bit retro aesthetic, and the highly streamlined way that your character handles items and money, in a fashion that's also reminiscent of a game much like this, HackSlashLoot (it's almost like Super Mario Bros. meets Diablo).

Combat is fast and furious, and you'll find yourself ploughing through enemies only to find yourself suddenly smashing hard against almost insurmountable monsters. Which I guess comes from the territory of being a roguelike.

Finally, the game is still under active development (albeit under a different developer with close ties to the original creator). Last I checked they're working on including a Ranger class, and Torchlight-style companions.

It's totally worth the money, IMO. At these prices, it's an almost trivial cost.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this excellent summary. I loved Dredmor and Hack Slash Loot, so it looks like this will be right up my alley. I'm off to buy it now, thanks again.

I wish people would stop calling 8- and 16-bit graphics "retro" :) Every other bloody indie uses them, they're common as mud and in active use now.

As I already mentioned, I really like Blocks that Matter and Wizorb, and I expect Metal Dead and Cardinal Quest to be fun, too. I already own Cthulu Saves the World but it didn't hold my interest for long, not quite sure what people see in it. Inside A Star-filled Sky was recommended to me by jefequeso and it looks like an original artistic concept and an interesting experience but I'm still on the fence about whether I would enjoy playing it. Climb to the top of the castle looks great but when I tried the demo I got stuck right in the beginning and it felt a little clumsy.

Has anyone tried any of the other games on sale yet, can recommend them or advise against them or even better yet describe a bit your experience with them?
