Here's an old freeware 1 man indy JRPG from 10+ years ago. It seemed pretty well known among the indy JRPG crowd at the time as it was one of the first complete ones. It's kind of rough and has Final Fantasy 2 style character dev system instead of a conventional XP driven one. It might be interesting from a historical perspective.

I actually remember seeing that when I was searching for RPGs recently. The forum post I found didn't say what became of the game but it had such lines as "if you paid for those graphics, you got ripped off". Meh. People.

Since it's only $5, I might pick it up soon myself.

Also fixed where Iffermoon was. For some reason, it was ABOVE Homeland.

Tried Inaria and Terra Aegrus.

Inaria may have the shortest RPG demo I have ever played. I had explored everything I could find in 5-10 minutes. It was interesting. More akin to a dungeon crawler than an RPG in terms of combat, I'd say. You play one person rather than a party and fighting takes place on the same map that you move around on. It was a little too easy, too. You could fully replenish health by equipping a ring of endurance, by upgrading a stat or by returning to town and getting healed (for free). The dungeon in the demo would reset every time you left but once you hit a certain point (within that 5-10 minutes), it's not much of a concern. If you got poisoned, health potions would remove the status effect.

The demo of 5-10 minutes concerns me about its length but it's still a fun experience.

Terra Aegrus is a lot more than meets the eye at first. Combat reminds me a bit of Exile. It's tactical and it can be challenging. The game is a bit light on story and it starts off a bit tough (not even the spellcasters have spells or abilities) but it's fun.

Probably the most interesting part is that when you camp, you can assign different roles to each party member. Some can rest, some can hunt and, if you don't want to be ambushed, some will have to play the role of the watchman. You still can (and will) be ambushed but much less.

My biggest gripe so far is that it's ridiculously easy to die at the beginning and being ambushed happens a lot. Normally this wouldn't be too much of a problem but each party member that dies costs 200 gold to be resurrected. After losing 2 of my party members to fights, I only had 150 gold.

I also have a problem with not being able to save while in towns. It makes sense that you can't camp in towns, but you can't save?
