Psyringe: I tried BlackSoul for perhaps 15 minutes but then decided that I'd rather play something else. The game feels very crude. It shows your character in third person with a fixed camera view from weird angles, and when you walk along a path, the camera will jump to a different spot every few steps that you take. I found that hugely disorienting. Also, there are control issues - only some of the commands can be reconfigured, and the game will not accept my preferred input device. It also doesn't handle my mouse correctly, only the main 3 buttons work. Moving around is a weird affair of moving the mouse, watching the character turn on the spot without moving his feet, and then pressing the "forward" key. Further annoyances include the complete lack of audio options.
I honestly haven't played enough to tell whether the story makes up for the technical shortcomings. So far, the writing looks rather crude as well. In any case, be aware of the technical issues.
Redfern: Imho, is absolutely hollow game, fun for first 30 mins, Not worth it.
Ah - thanks guys.
A little disappointing to hear that it suffers so badly. I will be waiting for the final game to be announced before making any decisions to hand over any money on this bundle then.
I still have RE1 - 3 on disks here that work with XP compatibility so I am in no rush for a RE type fix, I was just hoping that Blacksoul would have been a decent homage to the old RE and maybe even SH series that appear to have inspired it so much.
I guess I can just continue to hope that Capcom decides to remove its fingers from awkward places and bring the complete RE series to PC DRM-free.
