Many generations, one destiny.

Rogue Legacy, a procedurally generated RPG/platformer where the fallen heroes pass their quest and their skills onto their children, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the next 24 hours!

When you are old enough to read this words, their meaning will unfold. These words are all that's left and though we've never met, my dear child, I hope you know that I would have been there to watch you grow. But my call was heard and I did go. Now your mission lies ahead of you, as it did mine so long ago. The castle towers reach for the sky, overshadowing your home. There lies your destiny, my child, and your doom, but you shall overcome more dangers than did I. Bless you, now go. Ride like the wind, ride proud my child, and do reflect upon me when you die.

Rogue Legacy takes the classic 2D "metroidvania" gameplay and cranks up the difficulty level so much, that it's impossible to keep your character alive. Don't worry, though--once the brave knight dies while exploring the ominous haunted castle, its only a matter of few clicks to resume the adventure as their knightly offspring. You will get to choose among the children to pick the character whose traits and flaws suit you the most, and continue their parent's quest retaining the stat bonuses and equipment they managed to secure. The game sports sleek 2D graphics, perfect intuitive controls, tons of great humor, giant boss monsters, and virtually infinite replayability provided by the castle's ever-changing layout. Most importantly, though--it's simply enthralling. Each time your hero will fall, you'll experience a sudden rush of desire to have another go. Again, and again, and again.

Brave the many dangers of the mysterious castle while you learn the true meaning of inheritance in Rogue Legacy, for only $7.49 on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Thursday, September 26, at 9:59AM GMT. Don't miss out on this wonderfully addictive game!

ABH20: The cynic in me says this will turn up in an indie bundle eventually so why bother with a lone purchase?

Forget about Steam sales devaluing games in the eyes of consumers, game bundles have basically killed my desire to buy new games at all.
How about your desire to HAVE new games made? Support them if you want them.
Going to wait too.
Oh, hooray! Something off my wishlist for a change rather than a spontaneous buy!
I was curious about all the hype surrounding this game so I just downloaded the demo, found here, and I have to say, it's fantastic! I really recommend giving it a try before this promo slips by, it's a lot of fun and well worth the price!

Zoidberg: Awesome game, had preordered on the official site. An update is in the works! MAC/Linux plus content!
Hmm, I was all ready to put this in my cart but now I'm wondering if I should wait to see if the Mac version will be added to GOG. Though according to the Wine AppDB, it works perfectly.

Game is developped with XNA, which Microsoft will drop support of, but there's the MonoGame project, which is an open source project to make XA available on other platforms, Bastion and fez have been ported there on Linux/Mac.

So it should be pretty doable.

I ended up buying it anyway. :)
I can confirm the game does work perfectly in Wine. Well, at least playing the very first part of the castle. Was using the keyboard and quickly went through 3 heirs.
Sorry for a little necromancy but I'm so proud of myself!

Ghorpm: So I've played for what was it? One hour? Don't get me wrong, I knew that I would suck at this game but I didn't know I would suck so hard!
Well, it's not the case anymore. Now I can officially say that I rock!
- Manor completely upgraded (level 507)
- Every single blueprint found, every item bought
- Every single rune found and unlocked
- Gold is absolutely useless now
- Currently in New Game +5
- New Game +4 beaten within 27 hours and with 112 heirs (those are total numbers, each NG+ is not calculated separately)

I'm well aware that it could have been done better (I wasted ~60 heirs to beat the game for the first time) but as a first playthrough it's not that bad, isn't it? Now I need a break... But I'll definitely come back to Rogue Legacy sooner or later (most probably sooner because I love this game!)

Dude, that's hardcore. Congrats. :)

Pretty nice, I had gone through 144 children already by the time I finished New Game+1.
(And the first playthrough alone took me friggin' 111 children...definitely not proud of that but there was just something about Ponce de Leon that got me killed every time...)

Thanks a lot. And forget about NG +5, I've just finished it a few minutes ago because it's not nice to leave the game somewhere in the middle, is it? ;) Playing time: 26:20, number of heirs: 166 - it increased a lot because in NG+5 I was mostly grinding enemies to buy everything. I'm still very proud of myself especially because I've never used grace runes.

Seriously, one of the best games I've ever played :D

EDIT: Screenshots added ;)

Wow, that's some achievement.
I am yet to beat final boss on normal difficulty (killed me 3 times so far) and I suspect I already went through more heirs than you.

And you did it on keyboard? Wow, that's even more impressive. :-)

Thanks.

TBH I'm not sure if I had a gamepad in my hands more than five times in my whole life. So I'm not really aware what I miss and I think I'll let it be this way ;)

Wow, nice. I had four equipped during my New Game+ run :P Not sure if I gimped myself earlier by focusing on the crit chance upgrades. 50% crit chance (65% with Assassins) was nice, but on the other hand spellcasters were now mostly useless for me. Therefor I had to resort to so many Grace runes: anyone other than Paladin or Barbarian had immense troubles getting even past the castle part otherwise. Hokages killed most of the bosses.
