Turn and face the strange!

Evoland, a console-style RPG that's a tribute to all console-style RPGs and a trip through almost 30 years of console-style RPG history that just keeps evolving from one console-style RPG to another console-style RPG, is available 60% off today, on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Hi, I'm Joe and I'll be your guide in this fantastic adventure. You're the hero and you walk from left to right. That's it. My job here is done. Oh, wait. You walk left to right or right to left. Scratch that, you can go in four basic directions. But that's it. That's the entire game. Oh, wait! You have a dagger. So now you can poke 8-bit monsters with it. What? Make that 16-bit monsters. That's it. That's the entire game--you go around poking 3D monsters with your bad-ass sword. Wait? When did this become 3D? And what's this all about an epic quest? That's it, I quit. Find another narrator. This game evolves so fast, that I can't keep up. Upgrades, upgrades everywhere! Everything changes! You'd have to be a gamer to figure this one out.

Evoland is a fantastic concept brought to live with much passion and dedication. This console-style role-playing game starts small and simplistic, and evolves into new complex and appealing forms as you progress. Every upgrade you unlock brings in another time-tested gameplay idea into the picture. What starts off looking like one of your earliest 8-bit memories, progressively becomes a modern game with all the bells and whistles we've learned to expect from the RPG genre. This is as much a game as it is a virtual gaming museum trip that's nostalgic and entertaining! For such a low admission fee, it would be a shame not to take it.

Take a plunge into the history of one of gaming's most prominent genres in Evoland, for only $3.99 on GOG.com! The offer lasts until Thursday, July 18, at 9:59AM GMT.
This is a fighting game tournament simulator, right?

Nope. It is a romancing sim shoot 'em up.

Phew, so the description WAS clear enough, thank gods!
I was afraid I'm not getting the message across.

GOG.com: Evoland is a fantastic concept
And that's pretty much it. As a concept it was a great idea. As an actual game, it was rather lacking in the fun department.
Looks pretty interesting

aw really? I thought this game looked fun :(
2D + 3D in one game. So creative, don't miss.
A really good game with a clever idea behind it. The entire game is basically a set up of games from the 90's, which I found really enjoyable.
I really think price I think it is too good for people to miss.

That's what I was thinking. I'm thinking you could do a lot worse for that price.

While the inspired genres are different it actually really seems to remind me of Retro City Rampage in it's concept.
Nice quick history lesson on how games evolved along with both the zelda style hack-n-slash we know and love plus some turn based combat thrown in for good measure. I like the idea of finding chests to unlock new features in the game as you progress.

Yep. I found it rushed through most of the unique styles far too quickly and settled on those that were rather boring. I lost interest in it by the time it was rendering a village in FF 7 style.
I love these games these that come with a 'Universal Update', like there's some guy on Vega thinking, "It's about fucking time! Now I can run it on my OS!"
Pretty lackluster game. They were in such a hurry to get to the rather tedious FFVII parody that they skipped a lot of material (the moment you get turn-based combat, it's in the style of FFVII), and it ran into the fundamental problem that once you got over the "what a clever concept" stage of things (five minutes), the Zelda portions weren't as good as playing an actual Zelda game, and the RPG portions weren't as good as playing an actual, dedicated RPG.

It is fun. I bought it at full price and thought it was well worth the money. At $3.99, it's an amazingly good deal.

Plus, it's a truly unique game so I was happy to support the developer.
