Now you're the Man.

Democracy 3, a robust simulation of society and politics that puts you in charge of a realistic virtual country with layers upon layers of complex dependencies and important social factors to follow at any given time, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $12.49 for the next 24 hours.

As long as everything runs smoothly, no one will even notice--or appreciate--your work. A competent government can be pretty much invisible. Efficiently governed states are like fine-tuned engines. They run silently. It's when you hit a bump is what gets you noticed. Pass one regulation that doesn't agree well with a particular social group. Revoke a privilege. Raise a tax. Quiet and civil modern societies turned into medieval angry mobs with torches and pitchforks over lesser things. Tread lightly. Of course, sometimes it's impossible to avoid conflict and please all the sides. No, scratch that. It's almost never possible to do so. There you have it--just when you thought public office is all comfort and peace. You couldn't have been more mistaken. But then again, miracles do happen. Are you a political miracle-worker?

Democracy 3 is a deep and complex simulation of the modern society, that presents you with a meticulous model of a living, working, breathing state and puts you in charge of its happiness and well being. With a ton of in-depth statistics allowing you to see what exactly your citizens feel and think, your political career should be so much easier than in real life where your knowledge of public opinion would depend solely on flawed opinion polls, social analysis, and guesswork. But even with that advantage running a society can be difficult and you will--from time to time--fail. Should that be the case, you could always pick up the Social Engineering expansion for only $4.99 more, and try to put a positive spin on your shortcomings. The world of modern politics waits to embrace you welcomingly, with its slightly sticky fingers.

If you ever, even once, felt upset by what the people in charge of your country are doing, try walking a mile in their shoes in Democracy 3, for only $12.49. Who knows, maybe you'll discover you CAN do it better, and end up going into actual politics? Anyway, the Indie Gem Promo offer lasts only until Thursday, March 6, at 10:59AM GMT.

Matruchus: It seems more and more to me that gog is releasing only games they like.
avatar
Fesin: It's not like they ever made a secret out of that.
Yeah that must be the reason why there is a mass of adventures, click and point and rpgs released each month and not much else.

We released a few games lately that weren't RPGs or point and clicks. See Tower of Guns that was released yesterday or 7th Legion, Covert Action that we released a month or so back. We try to release a varied selection of games :)

Also, wait till you see what comes out tomorrow :P

Yeah the problem is I like strategys and simulations mostly and those aren't really turning up much (i mean classics obviously). I know im more a niche gamer than anything else. And the strategy games we mentioned above? What is with them since they were released several years ago drm-free and not yet here?

From browsing the games list for 30 sec, in the past few months we've had:
Guild 2, The
Guild 2: Pirates of the European Seas, The
Full Spectrum Warrior
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
Age of Wonders 3
Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Edition
7th Legion
Banished
The Banner Saga
Deadlock: Planetary Conquest
Deadlock 2: Shrine Wars
Spellforce 2: Demons Of The Past
Battle Worlds: Kronos
Triple Town

Banished particularly looks really, really good. The reviews calling it practically bug-free got me to buy it. The Guild 2 is nice, but not bug-free. :D

It is frustrating that GOG doesn't have all the games we want and that they release so slowly. That's why they introduced regional pricing. More games and newer games mean quicker releases and more variety.

There's also the problem of strategy and simulation games being hard to make, so there are simply fewer good ones.
At least strat/sim games are much easier to wait with than adventure games. Replay value has major upsides.

Have you tried Dwarf Fortress? It's pretty intense city-building/wargames sim. Even if you don't like it, the DF forums have a good section on Other Games with links to many strat/sim games. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126076.0 is a good place to start.

I have a feeling everyone will be quite surprised as to what's released tomorrow...I get the idea that what's been guessed as the possible release may indeed not be it. Either way we could be wrong...hmm.

Waiting, my dear apostle shrouded in darkness, is what I'm good at!

Nope, nope and nope!
One can never have too many adventures! :p
I'm interested in getting this game, but I'm going to wait until all the DLC is out and GOG puts it all together in some sort of Gold or Complete edition. I don't like buying games piecemeal.

And, I am really hoping for release of those, who have Risen above average :)

Yup... and even then I'm waiting several months, since Omerta did that and went on sale... and then released another DLC a week or two later. Not GOG's fault, but still...

And that only applies if I'm still shopping here then. GOG has been doing a great job of pissing me off lately.
Hmm, I guess I'll indulge my small bit of curiosity.
Already have Democracy 2 from Impulse, so definitely want to pick this up to get a DRM-free version. Only, the timing sucks so will have to pass this one this time (it is Tax Time here in the US, so my funds are drained to uncomfortable levels at the moment).
If I can get my taxes dealt with in the next few days... yee yee.
