Now you're the Man.

Democracy 3, a robust simulation of society and politics that puts you in charge of a realistic virtual country with layers upon layers of complex dependencies and important social factors to follow at any given time, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $12.49 for the next 24 hours.

As long as everything runs smoothly, no one will even notice--or appreciate--your work. A competent government can be pretty much invisible. Efficiently governed states are like fine-tuned engines. They run silently. It's when you hit a bump is what gets you noticed. Pass one regulation that doesn't agree well with a particular social group. Revoke a privilege. Raise a tax. Quiet and civil modern societies turned into medieval angry mobs with torches and pitchforks over lesser things. Tread lightly. Of course, sometimes it's impossible to avoid conflict and please all the sides. No, scratch that. It's almost never possible to do so. There you have it--just when you thought public office is all comfort and peace. You couldn't have been more mistaken. But then again, miracles do happen. Are you a political miracle-worker?

Democracy 3 is a deep and complex simulation of the modern society, that presents you with a meticulous model of a living, working, breathing state and puts you in charge of its happiness and well being. With a ton of in-depth statistics allowing you to see what exactly your citizens feel and think, your political career should be so much easier than in real life where your knowledge of public opinion would depend solely on flawed opinion polls, social analysis, and guesswork. But even with that advantage running a society can be difficult and you will--from time to time--fail. Should that be the case, you could always pick up the Social Engineering expansion for only $4.99 more, and try to put a positive spin on your shortcomings. The world of modern politics waits to embrace you welcomingly, with its slightly sticky fingers.

If you ever, even once, felt upset by what the people in charge of your country are doing, try walking a mile in their shoes in Democracy 3, for only $12.49. Who knows, maybe you'll discover you CAN do it better, and end up going into actual politics? Anyway, the Indie Gem Promo offer lasts only until Thursday, March 6, at 10:59AM GMT.
I'll think about it.
Nothing to me today, wallet safe for now.
Bought :)
Been waiting for this for awhile.
Too late on this one - when GOG couldn't match the 50% that was offered simultaneously from the Positech website AND Steam - you lost the chance for me to pick this up from here - since from the developer's website offered a Steam key and a DRM free version

blotunga: I was hoping for at least 75% off for this one. It is still way to expensive for my taste.
Likewise, it's just not compelling at the offered price to me, as much as I like to support devs who try something different. Plus I already have Democracy 2 and haven't played it yet, so it's unlikely this would become a priority for me.

Still, thanks GOG for the deal and for highlighting a game that's apart from the usual stuff.

GOG.com: Now you're the Man.
<snip>
If promoting this particular indie now is a "commentary" to the reactions to the regional pricing etc, that is, it wouldn't otherwise have happened in the "forseeable future" (next couple of months?), I'll just have to buy it..
I thought about it, and I'm willing to throw 10$ in the direction of this game that sounds somewhat interesting but I may or may not enjoy. 12$ + DLC? Guess I'll keep passing for the time being.
Offtopic but...i still dont get why Gratuitous Space Battles (http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/gratuitous_space_battles) \Tank Battles is still not on GOG. Pretty deep games with nice gameplay.

In light of recent events, this is hilarious. If only I were interested in this game...
Game looks very interesting. But I dislike DLC, and it seems like the game is still under active development. Probably passing until a more complete version comes out.

Shit!
Now I have to look how to get a paysafecard fast enough... ;)
Medieval angry bobs were clearly those men with quite widespread bob haircut, for instance pages. Men with manly names like Meredith, Evelyn and Vivian.

Anyway, boo to the democracy! Long live the King!

Yeah especially since they are offered also in drm free version.
Same for Hegemony Gold: Wars of ancient Greece that was released drm free.

It seems more and more to me that gog is releasing only games they like.

It's not like they ever made a secret out of that.
