There wasn't a RetroN 4 though, you probably mean the RetroN 3. The 5 was supposed to be the 4 but they added more to it an changed the name. I never noticed the issue on my friend's RetroN 3, but then again it wasn't a quiet apartment so I couldn't even hear when his gf's 360 was on.

Ah, no worries, yeah I held off on the 3 after reading the mass improvements to the 5. I am going to wait a day or two to see how well people are finding it, but if it is as good as it sounds I am most certainly grabbing one. As someone previously stated the choice to go from Famiclone to emulation system was probably the smartest move they made on the new RetroN.

That's been my experience, and the build quality is generally not that good.

Personally, I just dump my carts to ROMs and play on my computer with the original controllers. I know there's still a few Retrodes out there for dumping, but I think the cable I use for connecting my controllers is completely out of production at this point and out of stock.

Do you know if you need high-end tablet to run classic (Amiga/C64/SEGA) emulators flawlessly or pretty much any contemporary device will run it?

I was running both UAE4Droid and Frodo fine on my Xperia X10 and then HTC Desire HD over 2 years ago and they were fine, both run fine on my Xperia T now also

Just visit the play store on the device you want to use them on and if it is incompatible it will tell you. It should be ok though as they don't need any fancy 3d graphics processor / accelerator. They don't need a fast processor either to be able to run them.

Only real requirement is a multi touch screen with having virtual controller on left with fire button on right, so screen has to be able to accept input from more than one touch at once. All touch on mobiles and tablets are multi touch now though, the tablets would have to be really old to not have this functionality.

I was going to reply with a post on the order of "...but what makes it different from any other multi-platform clone system?", but if it's essentially another Android-powered microconsole that boots into an emulator then that makes things definitely interesting. It means that like other emulation consoles like the Dingoo, it's potentially moddable and hackable.

I'd reserve judgement though until I see someone thoroughly review this, because for all of this promise I can't wait to hear what the catch will be (e.g. compatibility not working well as advertised, poor controllers, bad build quality, etc.)

Yeah I figured I'd give it about a month, but from people who have had experience with the R5 at demos it sounds like it is really hopeful. I'm still going to give it a couple of weeks to a month before a purchase myself to make sure it delivers what is promised (or as much as is acceptable of course). I personally will probably make the most use out of the Famicom, Super Famicom and Game Boy/Game Boy Advance functions, if those are the most workable then I'll be happy. Here's hoping though.

I would really like to see it be able to use USB versions of classic controllers, myself. It would give me reason to buy a USB SNES and NES controller. Though I think the USB port may be a charge port only.

You could always buy standard controllers and then buy a USB adapter:

I forgot all about this thing, I was actually really looking forward to it. Might pick it up still as I really wanna play some old Famicom games.
