robobrien: Anyone have an idea as to why i can hook my DS to the net and the Nintendo shop but when it comes to games (Heart Gold, B&W) it cant connect?
I'm guessing you have a DSi, since you're talking about the shop. I'm going to also guess that you're using WPA encryption on your wireless router. The DSi supports WPA, but the DS(&lite) did not. The games are normal DS games rather than DSi specific games and as such, don't support WPA. Your only option is to use something other than WPA, either no encryption (not recommended) or WEP (not really recommended either but not as bad).

Hope that helped! And if you're not using a DSi and/or not using WPA encryption then I've been talking bollocks.

eyeball 226, you're correct regarding the older games but Black and White are DSi Enhanced games, meaning that when played on a DSi they gain access to the console's extra features, one of which is WPA compatibility.

Unfortunately, regarding the actual problem at hand, I'm clueless. All I can suggest is checking that the details stored in the DSi and the game pack are the same. Or Google it ;)

I switched from WPA to a WEP code, again it was fine until i tried to connect in-game. With Heart-Gold my connectivity bars remain black and i am informed that i am using the wrong WEP code...i'm not, the DSi main menu has no problem with the code nor my PS3.

In B&W my connectivity bars are green and it does seem to connect but always informs me that the servers are down. I tried Heart Gold last night and have just tried B&W + HG.

Thanks for the advice (and Roberttitus). Maybe it will all fix itself or i could fall back on ole faithful and start bashing stuff impatiently. Cheers.

Oh and i picked Snivy and called her Perdita X, but i may restart because it was pointed out to me quite firmly that the Panda one has a sad little face and i need to pick it instead...i realise now i should have never picked up another bloody pokemon game. Just when i thought i was out...Game Freak pull me back in.

In B&W the game sync currently does not work due to the servers being down, but the mystery gift should, which are you doing?

Hmm, so it's just HG that won't work... Did you put the WEP code in in the wireless setup that's part of HG? I don't own a DSi, but I'm wondering if the DSi mode wireless settings are configured separately from the original DS wireless settings (which were only configurable from within online games).

Ah so i had to re-enter my settings in the Heart-Gold main menu before entering the game, they weren't saved. Yep, yep, yep. Look it's been a long day, i'm tired and sleepy and i have a bit of headache and i had the bloody national census to fill in and...ok i is a dummy. Thanks for your help and showing me the light. I shall name a pokemon eyeball226 and use it always..(well at least for 30 minutes).

Cheers.

I had no idea it wasn't available yet, never really used my DS online. Thanks.

Incidentally, if you have plain DS I would recommend investing in a dual band router and set up one band as a WEP or open hotspot to use just when you are playing. You can keep the rest of your computer equipment on the other band with WPA2 or whatever.

There was an old plugin USB network adapter made by Buffalo that would let you plug your DS into your comp and connect that way as if via WiFi but they quit selling them.
So Victini's Regional Dex number is 000, that's an interesting way to sidestep the regional dex completion problem. Normally haven't they tacked them on at the end and simply not required them?

Also, I noticed that little guy got +3 in all stats on his first level up with me, holy crap!

Also, for all the Fire starters, Pignite is pretty good at stepping on faces, Arm Thrust, Rollout and Flame Charge? I just swapped out Odor Sleuth for Take Down, but I'm not sure why. Odor Sleuth would have probably been better in the long run.

I've also liked my Pansage way better than I thought I would. It doesn't hurt that he gets Seed Bomb at 22, man, what a strong move to have STAB with! Bite isn't bad either as a non-STAB move, it's actually one of my favorite early game moves.

I just finished out the third gym and its huge city. I'm happy to have an Amulet Coin and Exp. Share again. Those are by far my two most used hold items.
Can you actually catch all pokemon from previous generations in the game? I know that the booklet says you can transport them in via previous games... but what is the fun in that?

I think it's also to stop you from having a giant gap of empty spaces in your pokedex, as it was released relatively early after the game was released, and a pokemon's pokedex location tends to be somewhat relative to where you can encounter it.

Can't catch any of these in Black and White (though they may be available on the Dream World at some point).

Can't catch any of these in HG/SS, in addition to the new Gen V pokemon.

And can't get any of these in Diamon/Pearl.

i don't think they've ever made a generation where you could catch all the pokemon of the previous generation in the original pairing, Gen III actually required 2 GameCube games in addition to all the other games in the generation iirc.

I believe that once you've defeated the Elite Four and got the National Pokedex Pokemon from the previous generations will start appearing in the wild, though I can't personally confirm this as I'm not at that point yet. And, of course, Nintendo can release pretty much any Pokemon they like over Mystery Gift or the Dream World

When you find out how damned hard it is to get some Pokemon and train them you'll understand why people like to migrate their favorites through the generations.

Here's how bad the pain can get, find a rare Pokemon, hope it's a female, because you might need to breed it (some Pokemon only have a 12.5% female ratio, which can be a real chore to find). Breed it until you get the right nature and IVs that don't suck (IVs are sort of like Pokemon DNA, same Pokemon may have more HP and less SP Def, for example). Oh while breeding you might have to do a breeding chain to get the right egg move learned, because you can't teach it via TM or level up. Level it up carefully to make sure it has the right EVs (Effort Values). Use berries if you screw that up (gotta grow them). Once you have your EVs completed simply complete the grind to level 100 and any annoying evolution requirements (like an elemental stone or Happiness).

Plus the game gives you the carrot of completing the National Dex, you actually do need to import Pokemon to do this as they will be unavailable in any other way.

They've been adding swarm Pokemon once you get the National Dex to most games, but it's never all of them, just some. Good, paperback Pokedexes will actually tell you how to get each and every Pokemon and some of them will be "migrate from..." because they just aren't available.

I ground a bit before I went into the forest. Toasty (Pignite) is level 30 now that I've started route 4.

The Amulet Coin is available by completing the dancer quest in the middle of town. The Exp. Share is available by fighting to the top of that company where all the employees want to fight and fighting the CEO who's dressed as a janitor (near the Gym on the outter ring of the city, Battle Company or something).

Yes I really do go into every building and talk to everyone.

Petilil has many more of the healing moves than Pansage, Pansage just smacks people down. Between Megadrain and Seed Bomb, I like Seed Bomb. Pansage has higher base stats, but they're close enough that going the other way due to preference isn't a big deal.
