Delixe, I am personally hurt by this issue. I will do whatever it takes to resolve it for you!
Haven't had problems before with Impulse but two come along at once.
Just did a reinstall of it (newest client from site) yesterday after a system reformat, and attempted to restore a few game archives. None of them worked.
I also bought Braid in their sale. It appeared in my client but won't download as "the serial number entered is not recognized by Impulse"... well I never entered a serial.
So that's great. Can't restore my games to play them or download the new game I bought.

Delixe: You missed out the part where you actually don't have Titans Quest installed. Why would you uninstall it 5 times only to suddenly want to play it again?
avatar
melchiz: Durrr, the activation utility checks the game every time you launch it. Perhaps I installed it on another one of my PCs and SecuROM decided to screw me? (Which is exactly what happened.)
GREAT system, mind you. All I had to do was wait a day, after which my friend was away and no longer interested in playing!

Out of interest, why did you just not play it on the other PC you installed it on?
For what it's worth, I have Titan Quest with SecuROM activations and it's never once phoned home after activation for additional checks.

Can't you patch that out anyway now? Or maybe it has already been patched out and that's why you've never had any issues with it.
I just wandered into Impulse forum. Whoa, what a barren wasteland; GOG forum community is waaay more active than Impulse's.
I finally got a response from Impulse from the same rude lady as before.

8th of Jan and the money is still with Impulse. I said it once before and I will say it again, never EVER pre-order from Impulse. Their system is shocking and the customer service is diabolical.
Stardock jumped the shark for me with their complete refussal to "join the party" with the digital Xmas sales.
It jsut goes to show that Stardock has decided to go back to their silly niche base, with their "fences" and all that foolishness, and stop trying to compete as a mainstream service providider.
I bought GalCiv, Pol. Mach, Corp. Mac, and India COmp. from them, and those will be all I ever purchase, barring a $2 or under sale.

Did you actually do a download and archive or just archive them after they were installed?

Ever thought of threatening them with some form of legal action? Ireland is a part of the EU, right? Surely there's some EU regulations or whatever that can apply here.

So far the EU has proved to be completely impotent when it comes to DD services, even finding in favour of Steam's higher Euro prices.
Quite frankly I am just happy to no longer shop with Stardock and when the Stardock fanboys crawl out of the cracks then I will be there to correct them when they claim Stardock have brilliant customer service.
Even the EA Store has a better service than Stardock and thats astonishing.

Archive after install - but they've worked before...

Actually, if that is the case and the first charge is just an active account check, then they have absolutely no control over when it gets taken off - that's entirely up to your bank. However your first description said you were charged twice - an active account check is usually an extremely small amount, no more than £1/$1 usually, so if it's anything more than that then they've made a massive screwup somewhere.

Yes, as your case completely overrides anyone else's positive experience with the company. What happened to you is lame, certainly, but your personal resentment is simply that. As for your other comment, I consider myself someone who corrects enraged, slighted customers who crawl out of the cracks, claiming that they have been violated and whine in a public place about it.

On my Credit Card online statement it clearly shows 2 payments one made when the pre-order was done and another when the CD Key was issued, both for $19.99.

Archive after install is "officially" only supported when you're installing it back to the same copy of impulse. Also if it's upgrading to a different OS that will NEVER work because after you install the game it removes all the files or other OS's besides the one that you're running.
When you use the "Download & Archive" option, it archives all the install files for all supported OS's. That's the option you really want to use to archive games.
