1: With impulse can i buy games and archive someway to play them later? by later i mean years later when i get an itch to play, you know like GOG allows?
2: Will the games bought work if Impulse driven tanks or the site/software goes offline?
3: What kinda DRM is there on there games?

1. You can archive the games, but I think you need a Internet connection to reactive them.
2. Probably not, unless they're already activated.
3. I think all the games will at least have Impulse Goo. Some might have something else as well, depending on what the publishers want.

1. Their archiver was a bitch to use last time I tired it. Worse than Steam's and that's saying something. Plus, some games have third party DRM which limit the number of times you can install titles.
2. Most games work fine offline and don't need the client, any discs or anything. But the games with third party DRM may prove problematic.
3. The Stardock games are practically DRM-free, aside from needing online activation through the client to receive patches. But if you don't want patches then you don't even have to worry about that. Other titles vary.

Sounds like i'll skip Impulse.... to much hassle, id rather buy though used sites or just ebay the older titles...
Steam burned me and i dont anything like that... GOG give me what i want, how i like it, and its on my terms... archive and install 10 years down i love that ability... it seems GOG will remain my sole and only online games dealer untill something better comes along with NO DRM...

Wise move. If you are going to settle for DRM in a game why have the need for an installer as well.
I too no longer use Steam, and have had it uninstalled for some time now.
I have settled on buying games from gog and DRM free Indie titles. However, make sure you read the forums before you buy games here or any where as DRM free does not mean pain free.
Also, some indie publishers are more gamer friendly than others. Some will say up front no DRM others will not like you talking about it too much.
Read, read, read the forums, do the leg work to find if it is DRM free, and most of all hold on to your money until you are sure it is the game you want and it is delivered in the way you want (i.e. DRM free, and installer free).

But I plan on being able to use something I bought as long as possible. With no artificial restrictions. Hell, I still have an old machine I use to play dos/Win 9X games on!

I wasn't saying one shouldn't expect that. I just genuinely have no idea of what is going to happen with my life when I graduate in 2 months. And I also have my old machine laying around, although I haven't touched it in years, maybe I should try it out just to reminisce.

Except if you get a different machine (the activation locks it to your specific hardware). :(

Stay away from drugs, fast cars and crazy women and you should be fine.

3. Impulse GOO normally which requires an online activation once that ties the game to your e-mail. That's all.
Actually, only games listed as using GOO use that form of DRM. If nothing is listed the game is using Impulse's pre-GOO DRM.

i have a legacy 98se machine for DOS/Window games running a Voodoo 5... for Glide apps and i have an old laying around Ive been meaning to install for awhile now alongside the V5.
There are only a few games i could not get working lately. but for the most part i can still play everything fine.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is the only title Ive had to scrap.. to hard to get stabilized. 50+ hours of gaming goodness... i miss that game so much!

But then where's the fun in that? Crazy women are pretty awesome.
