taczillabr: But I agree, it is easy to get offended when you're not included in the knowing part and the buying part of the deals. Or offended when you're not included because of regional restrictions/price restrictions/whatever.

Yes, and well, seems that the offers thru Impulse now, is regionally targeted, as i get none of the US offers, (making it really few offers for me). decided to try it out, so i have had it running for a week, to test out the offers. i just wish that they had moore world wide on the big titles.

Weclock: same thing happens when you install steam for the first time, a window pops up asking you to buy whatever the recent promotion is, and it continues to do so until you tell it not to.
fortunately you can do the same thing with impulse.

Well I don't recall praising Steam either but I will say that Steam advertises special deals and discounts, not everyday items that are available. If every single time I started Steam it advertised some random utility I would be irritated by that as well. As it is I see an ad once a week or so for some sale I am usually glad to know about.
Am I correct in understanding these promotions only come in the form of bubble notices from the systray? Because I'm one of probably a billion people who shut those off two years ago to escape Vista's ceaseless warnings that I had turned off UAC. I'll be damned if I remember how I did it.
Perhaps this is the right place to ask.
How do I backup my games on Impulse?
How do I choose the folders to install my games on Impulse?
*Currently I don't seem to have any control where the games are installed.
Thanks.

anjohl: Yuck. Impulse is going back to the "gimmicky" past, and giving up on the "competitive" present.
That actually offends me, that I need to install what is essentially adware on my machine to be privy to certain deals. Wasn't it Impulse that complained about Steam being bundled with MWF2? This sounds a lot like the same basic idea to me.

So, just to check: You are just a fountain that we can drink from. And since you spout misinformation that is heavily coloured by your own personal feelings, you are a fountain of misinformation? :p
Or should I go with: You are just a fountain that changes its message and attempts to change the subject when you are proven to be full of crap and have a personal vendetta against something?
Don't throw poo if you don't want to get the poo thrown at you. Or at least make sure you aren't full of poo when you start throwing it.
Although, to be fair, a person who is full of poo tends to be the best ally in a poo-fight. Since they have large reserves of ammo.
...
Will you be my poo-throwing partner? :p

I believe it is in the totally unintuitive Stardock symbol to the left. Why they would expect people to know that is beyond me, but give it a go; I think it should work.
Better is to buy through GOG and GG as you do not need an installer to load your games in the future.
Reading through this thread makes me realize how absolutely horrible people are when it comes to such small things. Elitist fucks.

For the install path:
Open impulse, then in the up left, the blue icon that has something that looks like a menu on it, then, choose preferences, then click folders, choose my games, here you can choose standard path for install, and you can sett it to ask each time for install.
For backup:
If installed, rightclick it in Impulse and choose archive.
If NOT installed, rightclick download and install.
To install from archive:
Open impulse, then in the up left, the blue icon that has something that looks like a menu on it, then, choose Restore archive.

The automatic notices are bubbles, yeah, but you can launch it, click on it and select "View Promotions". GalCiv for 99 cents right now is a pretty good deal!

The promo notices only come in that form. But all you have to do is go to the Gaming Deals thread, and someone will post the coupon-code every time a new one comes up. Then, you just add the game to your cart (from inside Impulse, if you are lazy like me) and then you can get the discount. Not sure if regional stuff even applies then.

This.
I'm tired of reading all of this too, maybe later when I'm in the mood for bashing topics.

But it's such a good business strategy!
...
I might actually use the damn thing, but it doesn't start on boot-up with that option checked, and I can't really be bothered to open the POS every time I start my computer. Ah, screw Impulse anyways.

I got a few good deals on games for $1.99. I bought Jets 'n' Guns and Space Rangers 2. The price was low enough that I could understand that there might be some reason why the sale couldn't be published on their main site. However, the last 2 impulse tray specials have been Sims 3 for 25% off and Battlefield 2 complete for 25% off. I've seen both of these titles for less on Steam and Direct2Drive's main pages. So I don't think they were honest about not being able to advertise these on their main page. They just want people to install the Impulse Tray and keep it running so they won't miss a deal and will get reminders to routinely check back for specials at impulsedriven.com
It's a little bit of an annoying business practice, but I can understand why they would do this since Steam is killing them.

Obviously they want people to be aware that Impulse Now exists and that they start using it. Regarding the last 2 deals, I think those 2 were region restricted so they are using the tray app for promoting targeted sales as they said they would.
I too would prefer that the deals appeared in the store front but in the end Stardock can decide how they want to run their holiday promos as they see fit.

Thanks for that. I forgot about the deals thread for some reason. I spotted the right click promotions thing after posting, but the deal (BF2) was so lame I was hoping I was mistaken. Kind of tacky for them to make it look like some amazing blowout sale then offer overpriced bundles for about what they're worth. But then they probably realize they can be as tacky as they like and not very many people are even going to notice.
