I have the original disks and play the game that way without virtual cd's

If this game came here or even the 1st one it would be an instant buy for me. Loved them both.
And another one. Have you installed it into the default location (prog files x86)? I understand some older software can struggle with this because of security restrictions. I always install to a dedicated games folder. Might help?

Me too.

IG1 works fine under dosbox, I still have my cd of that one too, but it is looking a bit dated now. I
Talking of IG1 i found this while looking into the games music. This project looks interesting and from what i have played the game seems to be coming together well

Allright, I had the CDs years ago when I was about nine or ten. :3
They disappeared one by one before I ever got to fully enjoy the game.
I am indeed using virtual CDs, and I would buy this game from GOG as well.
The virtual CDs found their way to my computer before I found out where to buy the game online (the links I posted here earlier).

The game is indeed installed under "Program Files (x86)", I might try again under a shorter path. You say you have a dedicated folder, does that mean you have a folder being excluded from the whole Windows security check system?

@aluinie: Yes the project seems to have a high level of activity. Funny, I happened to find it while searching for IG1 music, too.
Open-IG1 worked fine for me and is the closest I have been IG1 yet (never thought about the game before I heard the music online).

Edit: I tried the virtual CDs with and without the patches, on my XP machine - the results were the same regarding the Design button. Obviously the problem is lack of proper original CDs, I am sure.

No it's not a folder I have changed in any way, I have read that Win7 is a bit strict about what it allows to happen in the Progam Files folder as this is where most viruses would find targets so some (especially older) software struggles in there. I just put all my games in a seperate games folder on the root of C:. I've not done anything to the permissions on it or anything.

I tryed to virtualise my CDs (alcohol 52) so that I don't have to hunt them down every time I want to play it. I do this with everything really. IG2 is one of those that failed, I had random CTDs an freezes whenever the program tried to access the disk.

Oh Wow! Good find Aluinie, I'll grab that and have a look later. Thanks.
I see, thank you for that information.
However, I am not sure if it is worth trying one more time to make IG2 work as it failed the same way on a machine with older hardware and OS.
I now believe that either a proper GOG version is needed ;) , or me and others need hard copies.
I unable to perform at least the install... (Win7 family premium)
My DVD reader don't even move after I clicked...
EDIT: after more than 30min, the install launched, I'm able to play ! :D
with unofficial patch 1.14 ofc

Need it on GOG, I want to finally beat the campain at Shinari side. >_<

Did anyone hear that IG2 is getting a re-release? Unfortunately it's on IPAD.
http://www.imperiumgalactica.com/
Also it looks like a direct port of the pc version. The interface and graphics looks untouched,

It appears that Digital Reality have got the rights back to the game.
Nice to see it re released but please developers re issue the pc version. Why should ipad gamers have all the fun.
Yeah, I just wrote to them, asking them to consider making a PC version. After all, it's originally a PC game. I for one would love to play an updated version of IG2. Hell, I'd love an IG3 too ;-)

DrunkenMaster: Hi, does someone know where to buy this game online or if it is even working with win7?

Greets
I got it to run in Win XP without much hassle.

Win 7's XP SP3 compat mode or Virtual Console might work with it.
Any idea if it's still possible to buy IG2 or even IG1 somewhere? I mean PC version, not recently released iOS version.

I was big fan of Reunion, IG1, IG2 and Hegemonia games, but I lost my media meanwhile. I would buy all these games immediately! :)

You can get is used on Amazon for about 20 USD. Thats how I picked it up.

By "it" I mean IG 2.

Amazon and Ebay would be my suggestions as well. Far as I recall Imperium Galactica 2 did end up being sold through the various "sold out software" CD companies so you can still pick up some used or even new editions of the game.

I agree that IG2 would be fantastic to have on GOG - its one of the few if only really fun 4* space sims that has land and space battles as well as a proper colony development setup (as opposed to the typical limited slots approach that most others copy off Master of Orion games).

Thanks for the answers guys, I will check it out :)

Btw: Recently released Endless Space is pretty good as well. Probably the first 4x game I'm really enjoying since IG2 times...
