chautemoc: I'm not sure what one has to do with the other, but anyway..the weird part to me was he took responsibility for it, when I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with him. Why would it? It's not his network. He doesn't accept pro-life ads. :P
But I took it in good stride partly because of the "It's Just a Ride" DVD..dunno if you saw that, but...it's really hard not to take his regret sincerely there.

Well the one has to do with the other because he claims he didn't watch it and admits he didn't really remember yet BEFORE that he says that, looking back, he had no reason not to show it. But how could he know? He hadn't seen it yet! I sure as hell wouldn't be able to remember something that never got aired 17 years later. He contradicts himself like that several times and that's why it comes across as a cheap attempt to increase popularity to me.

I think the key part there is "looking back." He meant looking back at it NOW, he doesn't know why they didn't air it then. Seeing it since then isn't a requirement.

chautemoc: Ah but that's my point ;). You don't say "I had no reason to not broadcast it" when you don't even RECALL why you didn't broadcast it on top of not even having watched the clip again. Obviously he had a reason not to broadcast it - that's what bugs me about the whole thing because he plays down the reason why he chose not to do so. Maybe he honestly forgot but don't say "I had no reason" when you don't even remember what the sketch was about! I'm pretty sensitive to such underlying meanings, and to me, it was blatant pandering.
Maybe he just overdid it because he honestly was sorry but it seems weird to do it at a time when his popularity is dropping instead of a short while after his death. Maybe I'm just cynical but he does strike me as the type of man who would do such a thing. His speech when someone tried to blackmail him was a clever plan to defuse the whole situation as well - this guy is far from an idiot. He's smart enough to turn his audience in his favour.

Well, I just watched Conan's last Tonight Show. Its strange...I like Jay Leno better, I've defended Leno throughout this whole thing...but I feel sad. Like a life-long friend just moved away. My mom (who also likes Leno better), said its because Conan got a raw deal. I don't know...all I know is that I feel sad.
See you in September, Coco.
Conan says farewell. Good on him to take it in stride, but it's weird how despite all this support for Conan and nobody likes Leno (that much), NBC is still going ahead with Leno.

Eh, I'm not big on Leno, but if they're going to keep the Tonight Show, it should be with him. Other option is to create an entirely new show with an entirely new host. Or at least completely change the show but keep its name, new host. Conan should have his old show back forever. Probably with a better time. Although I like watching it late...
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.."
I hate it when people say annoying things. :P

No matter which side you are on, it's pretty obvious that Leno's professional reputation has been almost destroyed over this whole thing. Alot of people had negative views of him in 92-93 after he inherited the Tonight Show, but they mostly fell off since the people bitching just continued to watch Letterman.
But when his show fails miserably and wants to go back to his old show after knowing 5 years in advance he was giving the show up is morally wrong. I know he's said that it wasn't his decision that it was NBC, but I highly doubt someone of Leno's stature was strong armed into taking the show over.
I don't foresee the Tonight Show lasting much longer with Leno at the helm after all this.
BTW, does anyone know if DVR's are taken into account for ratings? I know that alot of people would Tivo it or whatever since it was on so late.

I don't get the Letterman hate at all. I do, however, think that Leno had a lot to do with this - as does Kimmel, Howard Stern and many many others.
I believe Leno handled himself like a scumbag throughout this thing. Leno in no way, shape or form got screwed. Only Conan did. Leno got what he wanted all along and had no intention of playing fair. The man painted himself as a victim while sticking the knife into Conan. This is easy to see from looking at the videos of Jay talking about the situation.
It takes minimal research to know what kind of person Jay is.
On a side note - how can one react so violently to Andy, a guy who hardly ever gets to say anything? If you hated his Fox shows then I could see it.

Lou: Bring Back Arsenio Hall

Hell yeah!
In Soviet Russia, CoCo is with you.
Hopefully when his near inevitable show on fox starts, he'll be able to make it unrestricted streaming on the net as well.
Jeff Zucker is a jackass. Immelt (also a jackass) refused to fire him, but maybe Comcast will?

Krypsyn: I suspect that NBC and Conan will compromise, and Conan will accept a generous severance package while agreeing not to move to another network for a set time period.

Just wanted to say I called it, hehe. Not that it was that hard a call, but still... booyah!

Krypsyn: After that period is up, I fully expect him to move to FOX, since they have openly acknowledged that they would be interested in Conan starting a new late night schedule for them.

As other people have suggested or implied, this is a near certainty, but it'll be nice when it actually happens. Even if nobody else really cares if I am right or not, the personal vindication is always sweet.
