The only problems I've had with Win7 are due to the copy protection (e.g. Starforce, TAGES) not liking the OS, and so the game fails the copy-protection even though it's legit. I've had to install the x64 version of these copy-protection prior to installing the games, and then they work fine.

The only game I had that flat-out refused to install was Doom 3, which checks the OS in the MSI installer, and isn't future-proof :( I had to edit the MSI file to make it able to pass my x64 OS.

Most older games that get confused in Win7 are due to virtualisation of the Program Files directory, or DirectX support of older functions being turned off.

cjrgreen: It's "NT Authority", not ".NET Authority".

This is the error message that you get when you have terminated an essential system process. In your case, it is clearly because you do not know what you are doing and should STOP NOW before you brick the computer.

It is friendlier than the result you would get if you were to remove a brake line from your car. But what you are doing is no less insane. NEVER, EVER DO WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Actually, that is the best way to break things so badly that you end up needing to pay a professional to fix them.

carnival73: So you've never broken the warning seal on your OS so that you could view the directories on your hard drive manually?
Bad analogy. Viewing is not the same as deliberately breaking.

Besides, I have worked with Windows as a system and application programmer for many years, and I do not have to go around breaking things I do not understand on purpose just to make myself think I understand them.

Since you have no intention of listening, but will probably come back and blame us when you have bricked your computer, I have nothing more to say to you, and I advise others to do the same.

That's what she said!

Ah well, I've said my piece. I've got enough to get through, personally, to not have worry about and upgrade until long after Windows 8 has been out.
