Ok, let me clarify for all the slower children out there: I find the assertion that I hate old games/GoG/oldschool gamers based my criticism of useless threads like this one ridiculous in so many ways, i'd be hard-pressed to mention and explain each and every one.
First, the argument is flawed: if I hated old games and means to obtain them legally, I wouldn't have signed up, now would I?
Second, it's bollocks, same as the "why do you hate america so much" question that fanatics nationalists like to default to when anyone questions them.
Third: it's not really the congratulatory wanking threads I'm arguing against, it's the useless multiplicity of identical, same threads started by people who can't be bothered to see if anything they bring to the table hasn't already been addressed and answered, because fuck that, they're unique snowflakes and they're going to have their way. Other examples of threads I hate:
- Y MY B1G1F NO WERK (this is obviously going to wane, as buy-one-get-one-free is apparently beta-period only, but if gog's to be trusted, there are going to be more promotional opportunities later on, which means more asshats unable to comprehend what "only works once" means)
- ARE THERE ANY OTHER LANGUAGE VERSIONS: this seems to have been addressed by the gog by making "available languages" somewhat more prominent in their games catalogue. Or maybe it's just me, as I didn't really pay any attention. Kind of like the threadmaking crowd, only I don't care for localized versions, while they can't be arsed to research that kind of information on their own. Even though it's there. In plain view. Seriously
- WILL THERE BE ANY OTHER LANGUAGE VERSIONS: similar to above. This has been addressed by the gog, and here's what I got: translations are often property of local distributors, not the makers of the game. So it's complicated. Also, again: this has already been answered! Repeatedly!
- I WANT GOG TO ADD THIS GAME TO THEIR CATALOG: that's what the wishlist's for. Admittedly, the thread's gotten way too long and therefore useless as it's also full of idiots who don't give a damn whether or not their candidate's been mentioned in twelve different posts made in different days of the month september, so it's not really that much of a problem with people, as it is with the lack of a dedicated request subforum.
- THE WITCHER OMFG!!11 - what the fuck? Is that the good old games forum? I mean, okay, they're both CD Projekt's products, so to speak, but come on!
So, that's it for now, I'll make sure to edit this post should I remember some more interesting examples (or if some new ones crop up), and will make some effort to try and read and possibly respond anything some of you might want to throw my way.
Cheers,
Keph
