timppu: +12 or so? Brrrr!

That reminds me recently when I heard a foreigner living in Finland calling a friend of her in her (much warmer) home country, she told her "In winters it can get here as cold as in a freezer, can you believe it???".

I had to correct her right away "Actually, I don't think even deep-freezers can go lower than -18 Celsius. It can sometimes go easily below that here, especially in the northern parts.".

I noticed a mental meltdown in her brain at that point. She couldn't fathom there would be a place on earth where it could be even colder than in a freezer, even though she had certainly experienced that herself already. As if it was physically impossible or something.

(But then, in some winters here the temperatures stay around 0 degrees all the time and no snow. I hate those fake winters. I want snow and nice snappy frost in winter, thank you.)
Obviously Finland is a lot colder than Spain, but it never hurts to warn someone who lives in Thailand. Interestingly, until a few days ago we were having a temperature of +20 Celsius, what we call a "veranillo" (little summer) and usually happens for a week every year around that time.

Thanks for sharing your anecdote. It is always interesting to see things from another point of view. :)

I bought it on sale a while back but I haven't played it yet. Good to know that I really am not missing much (Red Dead Redemption and Hotline Miami have taken much of my recent gaming time).

I'm definitely not trying to dissuade other people from playing it. Apparently, most people loved it. It's just not for me :)

BTW, did you see the Hotline Miami developer is now supporting pirated versions of his game on Pirate Bay, but in a very clever way!!!

Well, I'm a guy, and I'm not any of those things. So thanks a lot for stealing them. Apparently there were none left for me.

Bloodygoodgames: bloody music is too loud
avatar
gameon: Why is it, that in films and games, the dialogue is really quiet, and the music is deafeningly loud. WHY!?

liquidsnakehpks: Cheers mate :D i was hoping someone would say this phew this was the post i was looking for , i am glad at least someone went through the game fully before rage quitting .

Bloodygoodgames: Rage quitting? Seriously?

So I hate a game, but I'm supposed to play another 4-5 hours just to get to the end so I'm absolutely convinced I hate it???

Come oooooooon. I've got 140 games in backlog I haven't touched yet. I'd rather spend the time on one I actually might like.

And, on that note, I have to go :)

Client waiting online and I have to start packing as I leave for Spain in 2 days.

Back in a bit to check in -- interesting discussion anyway!
Rage quitting is something some people do after getting their asses kicked in an online multiplayer game. Rage quitting is not quitting a game because you think it sucks. That is called just quitting.

Hmm, I've not played it yet but this is the first really negative opinion of it I've come across. I'll have to give it a go soon.

keeveek: From the games you hate I judge you don't like good games at all! :D
The clue is in the name, obviously she only likes good games with blood in them. ;D

Bloodygoodgames: Although.......I sob and sob and sob at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the real one, not the horrific recent one).
So you must mean the book, right? >.>

There's no way the Gene Wilder one is the 'real one'.

LOL

Well, as my dad always jokes about both me and my mum -- we were both standing at the head of the line when they handed out boobs.

See....I'm greedy. I wanted the best from both sides of the aisle :)

Bloodygoodgames: He's actually Chinese and grew up part of his childhood in China. Read an article about him a while ago.

I could tell he wasn't a native English speaker with some of the dialogue, as it was just a bit "off".

I'm a former English teacher to Asian students so can usually pick it up :)

EDIT:

Found the article - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-18-kan-gao-to-the-moon-and-back

He moved to Canada from China when he was 11. At that age you've already sat through hundreds of melodramatic Asian soap operas :)
As a Chinese at similar age and going through all my childhood in China, I'll bet he picked the Asian soap operas up after he moved to Canada. Or maybe that's just me :)
There's a perfectly good review function on the game card, plus an entire subforum for this game. I suggest that either would be a much better place to post this.
I watched the trailer for To The Moon when it was on sale, saw the "Young Lovers Riding Horses Through the Fields As a Visual Cue Suggesting Deepening Emotional Attachment Because That's Really Hard to Convey Through Convincing Dialogue" trope, and said "Next!". From your reaction, it sounds like I might have made the right call.

He very well could have. Korean soap operas are hugely popular in north America now -- his mom may have watched them for years :)

I got hooked on them when I still lived in LA and, when I moved to Thailand discovered they are HUGE here. I own about 150 series on DVD alone and boatloads more in digital file. If you want a good cry, these are the things to watch :)

Bloodygoodgames: Obviously, I'm dead inside.....

Just finished the first 45 minutes of To The Moon and wanted to smash by computer screen I hated it so much.

Click, read, click, read, click, read, click, read, stupid puzzle, click, read, click, read -- bloody music is too loud -- click, read, stupid puzzle, squint at teeny tiny graphics, click, read......give up. Go to YouTube to watch a walkthrough - last another 10 minutes. Aaaaarggggh.

Excrutiatingly terrible dialogue, annoying characters, Korean soap opera story.......

Yep. Done.

And I'm dead inside :)
I'm pretty good at solving the ironic ending to any conspiracy story that I'm ten minutes into

Only having read the intro to To The Moon I felt sick to my stomach, not for the same reason you were though - I don't like heart string tugging stories and that's got to be the most ham-fisted sad and depressing love story ever created.

If I missed out on the real deal in the first place, I wouldn't go through that much effort to love a facade.

Maybe it's just me. But I shed my first tear in the first hour of the game. (near the grave)

It's beautiful. It touches all the string and buttons to shed manly tears. It's like I would see my father.

Damn :_:

I haven't played To The Moon myself, so I can't really comment on it, though I do remember someone linking to one of the songs once and the lyrics were painful.

I have, however, played the atrocity that is Fahrenheit, which, if I remember correctly, you hated for similar reasons. I also notice that you've mentioned both Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale in your list of favourite games, but not Planescape: Torment. Any significance to that?

My guess is that your problem is that exposure to literature and film has lead you to develop certain standards concerning issues like writing or image composition.
