With that out of the way, I must say that there are some great suggestions here. Scarlet Lake was was constructed quite well even though she has little screen time and relatively little dossier information, and the same goes for a few other Alpha Protocol characters; I was rather intrigued by the enigmatic Sis, and was kind of hoping for a spin-off that would explore her background further (was she always mute or did something happen?). GLaDOS is a wonderfully many-sided character, with sharp wit, terrifying madness, malevolence, benevolence, omnipotence and vulnerability in an unlikely, yet still perfect, mix. Understanding Dak'kon kind of requires knowledge of the background of his people and himself, but once the picture paints itself (on the second playthrough or whatever), I think that the cause of his anguish is evident and relatable to some extent.
As for suggestions of my own, I'm going to mention a few. First of all, Captain Martin Walker of Spec Ops: The Line fame. Alas, I cannot explore his traits without spoiling much (and no, don't look it up if you don't know; just buy the game when it's on discount). Secondly, Durandal from the Marathon trilogy. I admit that it has been quite a while since I completed any of the games, but I do remember the development of Durandal being intriguing enough for me to put up with much of the old-fashioned shooting mechanics and occasionally confusing level design, which is way more than can be said of just about every other first-person shooter. I guess that he vaguely resembles GLaDOS in that his motivations are unclear most of the time, although he does seem more purpose-driven and no-nonsense than she does.
