I don't if it's just me but I loved this remake of Lounge lizards. But when I saw this review I honestly choked on my drink, is it just me that thinks this is a horribly written review?

Don't get me wrong, I am not moaning because it got a bad review. I am use to playing low rated games but there's just something about the way this is written that makes me want to slap the guy. Too much Halo by the looks of it.

He's defending his review in the comments, claiming that he never played the original, all the while refusing to accept that you can't judge this game based on modern day game design. He comes across very poorly, perspective-wise.
The review is poorly written, but he has a point- a remake shouldn't replicate the original, and he left like this one did. I think this is a problem with some crowdfunded games- the developers are unwilling to take chances or introduce anything new, perhaps out of fear of alienating the supporters.

I guess my understanding of the project was that it was going to be an "HD remake". In other words, just put a new coat of paint on the old game. IIRC, they certainly didn't garner enough money in their Kickstarter to completely rebuild a new game based on the original. They achieved what they said they were going to do, and I find it hard to fault them for that.

As far as I was to understand it was a simple remake of the original game... and it was good! :D

No, it's not necessary for a remake to include just visual improvements, but I see what you mean. Honestly, I question the need to produce a remake with just aesthetic improvements, but hey, apparently people wanted that and were willing to pay for it, so good for them :]

Personally, I would only care about a visual remake if it involved recreating a 2D environment in 3D; prettier colors doesn't really seem substantial enough.

Regardless of the review am I the only one who with this release wants to go back and play all the old LSL games? I seem to do that with every series; whenever a new TR comes out I have to block off my calendar for two months.

I understand to an extent, but again, this is IIRC, this was kind of a dip-your-toe-in-the-water, kind of thing. They also want to spruce up the other older Larry games (which actually could really use them; I think the problem was that Larry 1 already had a VGA remake. If they had been remaking the original blocky, black and white game into this, people probably would have been more excited - well, except for the IGN reviewer who apparently would hate any and all classic Sierra adventures). There's also some talk of making a new adventure. They simply felt the safer route was to remake the first game to test what the response would be before committing a lot more money and resources. I really hope it works out for them.

I didn't bother to check this link where I don't care for IGN at all but I noted that Gamespot gave the game a 4.0 out of a possible 10 and that was enough for me to scratch it off the list without further ado.

There's just too many games that everyone agrees are great to waste time on questionable ones is my view.

I did replay them for the new one coming out haha.
There's a lot of clunkiness in the remake that didn't need to be there. That's clear right from the start and doesn't go away. It's a definite improvement. But nowhere near the kind of improvement, gameplay wise, we should have been able to expect.

So, no. I don't think that his opinion is wrong. As a reviewer he has to judge it as a modern title and in that regard Larry does come up short (as does the game).

As a backer, I'd say it succeeded in doing what it's meant to. But it hasn't excelled beyond that in any big way. So I can understand both the views of both those that love it and those that think it's too mechanically antiquated.
Yeah gamespot basicly bashed it for being a point and click adventure......

Somehow larry get's all this crap for just being a paintjob but somehow monkeyisland got a free pass...twice... and don't give me that crap that monkeyisland is 10 times better because it isn't, they have a different setting and a different kind of humor but take that out of it and you get basicly equal games. Humour is a matter of taste.

I will say this about the difference between the MI games and the first Larry. The MI games are significantly longer than Larry 1, especially if you don't experiment a lot to see all the little jokes from clicking story-independent items in the game.

This is the complete walkthrough (again, independent of exploring items to click on). Spoilers, obviously.

Needless to say, there's not much to it.

But again, given that it's a remake of a 1987 game, and the whole point of the project was to simply give it a new paint job. I still don't think it's fair to criticize the project. Now, if they build a completely new Larry game and it turns out like this, all bets are off.
Gamestar, one of Germany biggest mag review votes a good 58 out of 100.
The game is mediocre like his original. One of the big flaws is that the German subtitles are censored and
some jokes are better working in the USA....AND the game is very short.
The review is a joke, What the hell? The guy certainly seems to be in his 30s. I have to wonder how he never got to play this game. LSL has always been a pour les connaisseurs type of game. Either you hate it or you love it.

It's not suprising though, he gave Bioshock Infinite a 9.5/10
