Well you might be able to use your... well lets call it "11th finger" to press the face buttons on the controller. Sure it'd be a challenge and if you have a marathon session the controller calluses could be pretty nasty but it might be doable.
Obviously this only applies to men and to women with strapons.

If I lost my thumbs I would just have to invent myself replacements out of duct tape, sticks and umm monkeys... >_>

One thing that dawned on me, was that you can still use a computer.. as mostly it's your other fingers that need to be used.
Console games, rather much not so.
it might be difficult to hold a beer and etc.. but I think if you had a straw, that'd work out pretty well.

Not that I've ever broken my thumbs, but it's yet another reason why gaming is superior on a PC.

Jumping (space) might become difficult. But a Wiimote or Sixaxis game would work quite well.
Since I was reading this while eating my lunch, it took about one second for me to realize that sub sandwiches would become a real problem.
