What type of game would you make if you had the skills, tools, and time?

Personally, I'd probably work with something like the unity engine, since it seems so widely used anyway, to make a spiritual successor to Empire Earth, only more broad and complex (but with features to also make it more simplistic if the player chose, like toggling on/off certain trees and make them automatic if the player wanted to).

I'd also like to make some sort of horror experience. Probably more in the vain of Outlast or Amnesia: The Dark Descent then I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. And I wouldn't release it unless it unless it scared the crap out of me (maybe have randomly generated scares or even roguelike environments and features?)

Possibilities are endless and I'd want to touch on every genre at some point, but I would very much like to make a game of my own some day.

How about you?

What engine would you use? Or would you make our own?

A proper industrial/production sim. Something akin to Free Enterpri$e.
Some vectrex remakes like;

classic platformer even though FPS's are where my heart is. in fact my platformer clone is coming along nicely.... yeah right...unity downloaded check, unity installed check.
A real successor to Creatures 3/Creatures Exodus

I'm so unhappy with the way Creatures Online is going. :-(
Hmm... I'd make a game I'd be happy with... Good story, great mechanics, fantastic music...

It would probably be City builder of some sorts.

And I would release it till it's perfect... one of my biggest pet peeves with indie dev's is that they release a game that is broken, people complain, they get angry and said they didn't have time... that's so dumb...
I always dreamed of a game mix between Might and Magic 7 and Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Where you play in normal MM7 mode, but also get to command you armies and manage resources and then fight alongside the huge battles.
Actually, myself and a few of the guys from this forum had an idea for a horror/sci-fi metroidvania lite game in the works. Unfortunately, lack of time and other constraints sort of caused it to stall out, but what we had was going to be good, I thought.

If I was making one for me, though, it'd be a noir rpg lite action rpg with exploration and open world questing, with rich backstories, characters and lore, centered around a universe of my own creation.
Something I would like to learn would be to utilize a mix of emergent gameplay and non-linear story telling with a dynamic difficulty system.

Then I would utilize this for a game like The Guild (series) but with less bugs of course. An RPG with a focus on narrative and character development would be interesting too.
My dream game would be a 3D multiplayer remake of the Dreadnaught factor remake in the vein of Star Wars: X Wing Alliance in terms of flight model. :)

The game would be made in Javascript, WebGL, Node-Webkit. Which I am currently learning. :D
This.

I would definitely make a real oldshool shooter. Something like doom or quake and not like painkiller.

tfishell: This.
What the hell is that? :P

Looks like a Saturday morning public service cartoon alerting kids to the danger of forest fires.
A Legend of Zelda clone with a quest randomizer option.
