Would you re-buy your games on another digital portal?

For sake of argument imagine that there would be an alternative site out there which is about equally likable to you as Gog.

For me the answer would be yes.

Why? Because over the last decades of gaming I've kept mountains of floppy disks, CD's, DVD's, and I'm tired of it. I'm done keeping things around, and the same goes for installers on my computer. I'm way too chaotic to keep track of that, nor do I have any inclination to spend HD space on something I am not even using right now. I buy digital exactly because that allows me to not worry about local copies and I can always get them off the internet when I need them.

That being the case, the fact that the installers are standalone and DRM free is almost irrelevant to me, as I don't want them taking up space locally anyway. When I need them, I download them. If Gog were to go down, even *if* I had the installers, I'd still go looking for another service which offers digital downloads of those games.

Personally I'm especially curious about those of you who re-buy their games here, even though you have them on disc. Is there enough difference between owning it on disc and having a drm-free installer without option for redownload for you not to do the same again on another portal?

The real question is: Would other Digital Service Stores offer the same policy as GOG, be geared towards the same crowd and offer generally older games? In most cases, the answer is probably no.
Well, I have the original discs and the gog games are on flash drives as back up, so I wouldnt need to go anywhere else personally.
for a moment there i thought this was a parody of the constantly posted "If Steam shuts down..." threads all over the internet and particularly on the SPUF.

i'm still not sure if it isn't...
Some of them (Atari games, BGaE, Psychonauts etc) but not all, as I am not sure I would play them again (or even miss them...) For my favourites, I more or less use this site as an online collection space, where I can easily get them again when I want to. If gog folds, I will try to get them elsewhere.
Not a chance. I have Capitalism Plus backed up, so gog dying wouldn't affect me in any major way.
I have about 7 8GB flash drives with everything I've gotten from gog. If gog failed and we could no longer buy from it, I'll just go out and finally get a life.
Only if a game can't run on newer systems and I can't fix it myself, then I would buy it elsewhere again. As long as my backups work fine there is no need to rebuy my stuff.
I have them all backed up to a 600 GB drive I carry with me everywhere (it also holds my music collection) and they are also all backed up to DVD. What would be the point of buying them again?

If gog/steam shut down...

i will pirate every game i own on that service. I don't care about the law. I don't pirate games because law says i shouldn't. I don't pirate because I respect the industry and people who worked on games by giving them my money.

but if i have no access to games i already paid because the management are morons (most probable cause of service being shutdown) like hell i am gonna pay again for them... i might if i find it more convenient than just torrenting but most likely not.

LOL!
I had one of those once, at the age of 26....Then I got into gaming!

I WANT to say, "Grr, piracy is bad", but you have a great point. Already paid-for, already agreed to the license, and for those of us who bought GOG versions of stuff we already have (or had) and disk, we've done this twice. I think that's enough to be legal, right? Just keep your old GOG emails.

I probably wouldn't re-buy unless my backups got lost. If I already have the installer, it wouldn't make sense to replace a known DRM-free digital title with the same title that may have DRM on it.

Pretty much this.

Unless GAG (Good Ancient Games) starts PS:T with Win 16 compability. That would make me buy my games again.
If GOG and Steam and other services all shutdown... I'd sleep next to all the gaming stores every night to buy the physical disks until I ran out of dough Even if DRM of those games are annoying (Note: I'm here for the community and old games, mostly community. GOG is here if I need it.).
I can't say I understand the point of the question. Part of the whole point for many people buying here is that it doesn't matter if GOG dies. We bought the game, we downloaded it. Baring fire or some loss there is no need to rebuy, and it kinda means you maybe did something stupid if you do(I do see how 1 or 2 could slip through), and there is no reason not to just move on to a comparable supplier for new content.

Saying you don't want to bother with storing installers because its messy is a personal decision I can not personally relate to. It sounds a lot like, "I don't keep clothing more than week old because it takes up to much space in my closet, and I can always buy more." I have been charged extra on my Internet bill for heavy usage. I see no reason to invite that situation into my life, especially if it were to mean down the line what I paid for disappears because I had odd habits.

This is coming from someone that has rebought just about every Street Fighter and Mark of the Wolves version he has come across. I can see some merit in rebuying for the convenience of running something on a newer product. That being said, as someone that has bought just about every version of SF and MOTW he has come across, I'm getting a little tired of buying the same thing over and over.
