That would make me play a lot more console games. Actually, if they just let me customize controls on the controller, that would make me like it WAY more. There are some games with controls I just can't use because they're physically painful. You should never have to hold down a button constantly to move.

But no, it wouldn't make me stop PC gaming. I play games on PC for three reasons:

Control options
Backwards compatibility
(those two you mentioned)
and MODS. I modify almost every game I have.

However, if they also allowed mods, who knows.

I don't think you can claim it as a feature just because a few things still work.
Most old software and games don't work out of the box on new systems.
Sure it's nice that sometimes it works, but if your case is electrified due to faulty wiring you can't add 'bugzapper' as a feature just because a mosquito landed on it once.

I have the best gamepads ever made on my PC and it would be nice to be able to use them on my Wii (which I only use for GameCube games, so in a way it's a bit backwards compatible, like my 3DS-XL which is only used for NDS with bigger screen).
Using the GameCube controllers with my PC isn't a problem, I've got an USB adapter for that and had one for my SNES peripherals too once.

Guess you don't have a 64-bit OS then, because if you did, it's highly unlikely that your Tetris game would work. In fact, you can generally forget a lot of games released for Windows between 1995 and 1998 on 64-bit systems.

Thing is, even if it doesn't work out of the box, on a PC you can get most stuff running without additional cost (anything you need is either freeware or comes with Windows). It may take some effort occasionally, but it's possible and it's an inherent feature of the platform.

With consoles on the other hand you're shit out of luck. The only chance you have is modding your console thereby voiding the guarantee and emptying your wallet. That, or keeping an ever increasing pile of old consoles that you have to dig out and hook up to your TV set just for that one game you'd like to play again for five minutes.

I never hook up my SNES anymore, wouldn't have got the room anyway and HDMI output + savestates + fast forward etc.. options are bliss and being able to hack Seiken Densetsu 3 and Secret of Evermore so that they can be played with more players (which should have been the case from the beginning) is so much better.

Then games aren't a feature of any system without built in games too.
Windows has Solitaire and Minesweeper, woohoo! ;)

The funny thing is, consoles actually support the use of USB or Bluetooth keyboards and mice. It's the games that don't. It would be easy for Activision to implement KB+M support in Call of Duty on the PS3/4/360/Xbone. No idea why they don't.

I remember this quite patently idiotic image that someone posted at one point to demonstrate that the PC was somehow superior because it had "more" exclusives, even though the PC section had an absurd amount of shovelware, and the download exclusives on the consoles were deliberately left out.

There are certainly plenty of PC exclusives, and when it comes to the best indies, PC almost always gets them first due to it being an open platform (before inevitably being ported to consoles), but no-one should be in any doubt that claiming that PC had tons of exclusives is like claiming the Wii had tons of exclusives.

The Wii DID have tons of third-party exclusives, but there was a damn good reason why many of those (non-Nintendo) exclusives were never brought over to other platforms. Same applies to PC. Exclusives only matter when people only on other platforms get jealous of them.
