SimonG: No go back to your house and grab a torch. There is some lynching to be done!
I'm glad you've come around to the right way of thinking here.

karacho: Jonas Antonssons brain is a gimmick
Q:Do you know how you can make a Swede's brain look like a pea?
A:First you paint it green, and then you blow it up to the right size.

Good one. You should tweet him that. :P
So solitaire is a gimmick?

Are pinball machines a gimmick?

SimonG: A MP game has a "shelf life" once the community is dead, there really is no point buying it. SP games will forever and always remain playable.

Just compare Battlefield 1942 to Blood.
This is a great point, and I'd take it one further and venture that the glut of MP-focused titles has decreased that "shelf life" considerably. Some multiplayer components of games are dead out of the box, even though they are fleshed out and make up considerable additions. Bulletstorm immediately comes to mind, as it requires a level of teamwork that would be quite a long-term reward to a dedicated, small group of players. Fear 3 is another, as the multiplayer modes of that game are very daring and different from the usual FPS crop, but finding players can sometimes be pretty tough. It isn't easy out there for games that try to do something different, which is a shame but perhaps another thread altogether...
Never heard of the guy or his company.

Seems a bit out of touch.

All this "social" gaming and stuff does not make us more social as people - in fact, it seems to be the opposite, in my humble opinion.

Yes, a long time ago, before technology, etc., people tended to be more social. Duh. They had to rely on each other more to accomplish things. So yeah, "games" used to require participation, and many still do, but I don't think computer game developers said "Let's make a single-player game because it's the only thing we can do."

Technology, if anything, is pushing us to be further apart whilst trying to present the illusion that we're "more connected." I find it quite amusing that the very tools that are "connecting" us are what's actually pushing us further away from each other.

fortune_p_dawg: You thought Faxanadu was awful? The 8-year-old in me is crying. Loved that game.
I liked it back in the day fine, I acquired a copy much later as an adult and played it, sadly it did not hold up (had aged very poorly).
That game sucks, though, my version is tons more fun, even if she's far uglier when you wake up in the morning (lol, yeah right, like I ever stay til morning!).

Never heard of the guy before but I think he is exaggerating. Sure we are humans and we like to talk and play with each other, but not all the time. A healthy mix of single and multi player experiences is fine. I can listen music by myself, read books, watch television, cook, eat, ... do many things single and so playing as a single person should be kind of okay too. You can't really say games can only be played good in multi player mode although multi player is probably more important than single player.

StingingVelvet: I am full of rage threads lately.

Anyway, here you go.

Rant and debate away. Personally games are a break from social interaction for me, something I put headphones on and use to escape my constant interactions with others. Saying games should always be social means fuck off then.
Let me translate. -> "We benefit more by making a multi player only game so we want to convince stupid people, single player is a gimmick."

That may be true for the masses who cares?

You play what you want. I prefer single player games but I don't lock myself to them and play multi player from time to time.
Super Awesome Dude says "Whatever BIIIITCH."

Yes. Guy is an idiot. Probably too lazy to want to program or script AI into a SP game.

Read somewhere humans are social animals. But. having said that a lot of us need our own private quiet time to recharge - and doesn't always mean going MP hahaha
