I own all of the Icewind Dale games and expansions but I can't get any of them to work on my Vistax64bit computer.

I'm willing to buy this game if it's compatible but there seems to be a no refund policy if the game has been downloaded.

Can anyone give me any information on this?

Thanks!

Lillycake: snip
GOG's main selling point is that they modify their games to work on newer systems. I don't own Icewind Dale, but I assure you that they will either work out-of-the-box OR, worst case scenario, you'll have to tweak them a little, which happens very rarely and usually takes very little time.

It works out of the box on Win 7 64-bit, so I'd assume that it works on Vista 64-bit

Unfortunitly I own the physical copies of all the games and they do not work on Vista x64. I've tried many work arounds and failed. (Hense the reason I'm willing to purchase the game yet again assuming it works for sure.)
My Impulse copies work fine on my Win7 laptop (and my Android! :D) so the GOG versions should work for you.

Again, this is the whole point of this shop - that older games work on new systems. The oldest game I have from GOG is from 1987(before I was even born) and it works just fine. I installed then pressed the .exe and that was it :)
I can test it on a Win7 64bit right now if you want.

Sorry for my stubbornness, but please understand that I've litterally bought the game twice already, and if I get a third version and it still doesn't work I would rip my hair out.

I'm sure it works on that, Win7 is a definite upgrade to Vista.

My problem is I'm reliving the Vista release times where XP -> Vista was hardly considered an upgrade.

In the unlikely event that you have any issues, just start a thread "Problems with Icewind Dale" or something like that, and I guarantee you'll be playing them in no-time. We're a pretty helpful bunch here on GOG :P
Alright I will give this a try. Any chance you know if the game is patched or not? It doesn't mention that specifically, just expansions.

Thank you for everyones responses, it is very timely and appreciated.

The original releases of the infinity engine games (Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate & Planescape Torment) all have some issues with modern OSs (or more correctly modern graphics accelerators, as far as I can tell), but later releases should "in theory" fix this. There are fixes for the original releases out there on the net as well, but they can be fiddly to work with, and remember that these are old games, made for old operating systems, so no fix (be it one by GOG or one by the community) is going to guarantee success, but from what I've heard, the GOG release of these games works for the vast majority of people.

From what I know, all games on GOG have the latest "official" patch, but if you want to use any fan-made patches, be careful because it might screw-up the GOGwrap and you might have to re-install the game.
What exactly is the problem with them on Vista? Telling us the issue you are having would allow us to better tell you how the GOG version will fare. Believe it or not there is every possibility the problem is not your OS at all, or that you are missing a tweak that could easily be done without re-buying the game.
The problem I'm having is the screen greys out whenever I try to start a new game, and it's as if there is a hidden message box because if I click in middle of the screen there's a button that says "done" but nothing else appears.

I guess I can't get a refund now that I already downloaded this?

Have you tried tinkering around with the graphics options? You know, lowering the resolution, disabling various options, etc?
