JMich: Taking a look through both threads, I can't see what graphic card you are using. As OldFatGuy told you in your other thread, this is usually a problem caused by SLI (aka 2 video cards). If you are running 2 video cards in your machine, there should be a setting to either turn one off, or turn the SLI (or Crossfire, if you are running ATI instead of NVIDIA) off for a specific game.
So, what video card do you have in your machine?
In the other thread I mentioned I had a Dell XPS 630i. Since it's clear I wasn't specific enough, I will google search the information for all of you, and post me results. Sorry I'm so ignorant of computer language, I feel completely at fault.

I copied this off google, since I'm clearly far behind any of your understanding, I apologize if this isn't helpful. I will do anything you ask to help me play this game. Please.

Lillycake: I've had to deal with (...) highly paid tech support
I strongly suggest that you try GOG Support instead. ;)

Jokes aside, I see you've contacted us before, about a billing issue, but not about the technical issue with Icewind Dale. If we find out what kind of PC you are running, we might be able to help.

Our games work well out-of-the-box on typical PC configurations, but with PCs you can get a virtually infinite combination of hardware, software and settings, and some of them are bound to cause issues with some games.

NVIDIA® nForce 650i SLI

Leaving only the interested parts of the quote. Your computer is running an SLI (the nForce 650 card), and a bit lower it does say it's using 2 slots for graphic cards. Since I don't have an SLI setup, take a look here to see if this does help with Icewind Dale. If it doesn't help, we'll have to take more detailed steps to see what is causing the errors.
P.S. In case you can't find the relevant setting, ask again, and I'll try to find a better tutorial, or someone who does run an SLI setup will (hopefully) be able to pop in and give you a more detailed example.

Not necessarily. nForce is MB chipset, not GPU. It can run two cards in SLI, but it doesn't mean that OP has them.

True, deducting from error and computer specifications, and thinking that a quick test would be easier than trying to verify if there is an SLI setup in it (especially since I'm not sure how to check it).
Thank you for correcting me though :)

On the other hand, you are correct ;) Dell XPS 630i comes with 2x ATI 4850 and the error is probably caused by dual card.

If you don't mind, I'll let you describe the way to disable Crossfire, since I have no idea how to do it.
P.S. Is it a common error with IWD (and the rest of the Infinity Engine games) or was the OP unlucky?

I have yet to find an older title that works better with SLI than without ;)
I haven't tried with the GOG version, but I have both Icewind Dales installed in Vista64 system and they run fine (out of the IWD colloection box without patches). So there's a solution out there somewhere.

One thing to try, is seeing if the game has "run in compatibility mode" checked, also in "show for all users". Seeing it's a gog version, I'd check these out.
Sorry I'm tardy to the party and don't understand the technical jokes, but can someone tell me what I need to do? I looked at that link and it said noting that made sense to me.

I have a Dell XPS630i staight out of the box (Windows Vistax64bit) Which by the way was sold to me for extra money, the original deal at the time, four years ago, was that I get windows XP. The cunning bastard sold me this operating system that caused me countless WEEKS of tech support hold time. I wasn't able to play online games for several months after spending $1300 on a computer. Sucks to be ignorant, I bought into the system and I got scammed I guess. MY FAULT RIGHT?

Now I want to play Icewind dale. I bought the game when it first came out and got far into it without a problem...on my old computer. Now I have this new computer and it doesn't work. I figure it's a technical issue that I cannot possibly fathom so I decide to buy a new CD off ebay, it's the same game but a newer version and reportedly a lot more effecient, patched, and more compatible. That was a giant waste of time and money, it was practically the same thing.

After more days of hair pulling and frustration, I hear about this site, and I make this thread trying to figure out how to play the game.

Okay, I get it, computers are complicated, many technical understandings are required to understand how this works. It isn't easy, it's a difficult task getting old games to work on modern PCs. I GET THAT! I just want to play, I don't understand all of this complicated computer language people are demanding out of me. Everytime someone questions my legitmacy I am forced to do research just to respond to their post without getting my facts mixed up.

I only paid the owners of this website so I can avoid the hassle of going through all of these loopholes and spending multiple days getting a game to work, just because I'm apparently in the wrong here, since my computer is too modern. If I knew I had to research and spend so much time through tech support, I wouldn't have wasted my money.

I'm so obsessed with this game, this whole journey it has been trying to get this thing to work, I'm willing to comply and do whatever it takes to get this thing working. Please, just do whatever you can and explain to me what I need to do, how to do it, why I need to do it. I'm confused, I'm dumb, I'm new to all of this. I'm lost and I have plenty of money, I'll donate money to anyones paypal account if they can fix this for me.

Please I'm begging all of you, explain what I'm doing wrong, tell me how to get this game working and I will pay you.

Here, you can fill this:

You don't have to pay our support, it's our job, but it would help if you wrote us directly.

@Lillycake
Worry not, while understanding computers may not be as easy as riding a bike, it's not as hard as nuclear physics either. Go with the support form Sstefania linked, and should you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. All of us have been baffled by technology before, and many (if not most) of us at a time when internet wasn't that widespread, so you can imagine our frustrations. Hope you get IWD working soon, so you can (finally) enjoy it.

Can you please double check your records? I already filled that out before I started these multiple pages requesting help. I don't care if it's your company or the community, I am offering real life money via paypal to anyone who can solve this problem for me.

Since I recieved no response from your website I made these two posts.

I am fully prepared to proove my legitamacy and do anything you ask of me, I promise this isn't a scam to try and get my money back. I just want to play this game so bad and am going through all of these lengths to figure this out.

Nothing beneficial was linked, it was just a standard help page.

It's the same page that I started with, I applied for help before posting my second request for help, and nobody has replied thus far.

I'm now reaching out to this commmunity (and others) to see if they can solve my problem.

The only support ticket that I could find was the one you sent 2 days ago, about some billing issues. I responded yesterday. There is, however, no ticket about any technical issues you're experiencing with this game. Have you sent us two support tickets, or just that one?

I only sent the one. My apologies if it wasn't enough information, I assumed the posts I made here were the information neccesary to accomidate my problem. I'm extremely appreciative of the response time, and the helpful tone everyone has offered.

I hope that my post history explains my problem enough, but if it doesn't I will be here to explain anything else that isn't understood.
