Thank you. We should now shift our focus to settings, as you have said, many things have been tried before so we will attempt to pick off the most obscure ones first.

In the Catalyst control panel there is a setting called "Catalyst A.I.", could you make sure that "Enable Surface Format Optimisation" not ticked and that "Texture Filtering Quality" option is moved all the way to the right (it will probably say 'High Quality') and then click on apply and then try the game again after a reboot.

Catalyst A.I. changes the way your graphics card runs based on the game is running so when BG2 is running it maybe fine but issues start happen with other games such as IWD.

I'm sorry I looked for a long time and I can't find any of those in the control center. I even typed them in the search feature and nothing came up. The closest thing I found was "Catalyst A.I." and that was in 'Gaming' -> '3D Application Settings' -> and was simply a tick (off/on) box.

*edit* I have been playing around with these options while I'm waiting for your response. For the sake of keeping everything simple I return them to default each time the test is complete. So far everything I've tried has led to the same results except for the compatibility options. Those simply just crash the game when I start it.

Cool. Please could you turn it off and then give the game another attempt. Also please could you take a screen shot of that page of settings.

Go into your installed directory and find icewind2.ini and right click it, select open with and select wordpad

Delete everything from program options down over and copy and paste from program options from mine in. Now save it and try again.

This is the default settings.

The .ini file in my Icewind Dale has never been touched, do you think that could be a possibility? Also can you please share Icewind Dale 1?

Its the same engine on IWD 1&2 and also BG 1&2

Try that and while you try that I will install IWD which I have from here and do the same with that ini file.

Our settings match up the exact same!

That's something I've toyed with for a while already. I'm doing a step by step troubleshooting with nullzero right now so I don't want to mess with anything he doesn't tell me to.

Could you try the following set settings testing the game between each one.

1. Using the Windows control panel. Change the display resolution down to 800 x 600 and ensure that 32bit colour is enabled (sometimes also called 24 bit colour).

2. If that does not work, still keeping the above settings in place, un-check the open GL option from the screen prints that I provided previously..

Just sneaking in here. It's the Infinity Engine, not Aurora. Aurora is the 3D engine used for Neverwinter Nights (and in modified form for the sequel and some other games, including The Witcher and Knights of the Old Republic).

Yes you're right, Aurora came straight to mind when I was typing that sorry!

Alright those have been tested. The game continued to load the same way, and the same greyed box appeared. (I really wish we could find out what the error message is at least.)
